I've inserted the apposite quote from Andrew Marvell. The following former text was invented from a second-hand unknowing reference to Marvell's poem:

"Apparently McHattie may have got the idea from a publication of 1678 called The Skilful Gardener where the author describes such a clock at an exhibition in Paris."

These inventions are too easily done; the history of cooking is full of this kind of thing. Finding them and eliminating them improves Wikipedia.--Wetman (talk) 03:50, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
