Sometimes flight engineer is called flight planner, I believe. JayKeaton 16:04, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Do you have a source for that? The person dedicated to flight planning is usually the dispatcher (although they're ground crew), and all three pilots perform flight planning to pretty much the same extent. --Scott Wilson 17:28, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Shoulldn't this artilce be considered just a stub (as of this writing anyway)? --angrykeyboarder (a/k/a:Scott) (talk) 21:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] THE HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN FLIGHT ENGINEER

For a better, more detailed description of the flight engineer, see the attached blog. It should be noted that the flight engineer does not function as a mechanic, this is a common misconception. The flight engineer does not repair the aircraft when away from home base, this would be impractical at best since he would not be dressed for maintenance work nor would he have the tools required. The flight engineer's true benefit is not realized until there is an in-flight emergency.

The following is the story of my life as a flight engineer.
