[edit] Thoughts from a disillusioned Wikipedian
[edit] The Politics of Wikipedia
When I discovered Wikipedia a few years ago, I almost immediatly become enthralled. I got so into it after a while that I decided to "be bold" and contribute.
Over the course of the past year I've become rather discouraged as I've discovered that just like any big corporation, Wikipedia has it's share of "bigwig Pinheads" as well.
Common sense is thrown out the window here far to often.
Unless you happen to "have the right connections", then being a Wikipeian can't amount to much more than correcting spelling errors and punctuation.
Start a new article on what common sense dictates should, be a "notable" subject and the wikiclique will deem it "not notable" (while not applying the same standards to other similar articles). I guess it's about who you know. :(
After that, your optons are arbitration. And you know what? Most people have better things to do with their lives than jump through (what seem to any rational person to be) needlessly unnecessary "hoops" to get anything corrected here.
And if all this weren't bad enough, I come across this and this today.
What is wrong with this place? I thought Wikipedia was supposed to be "open"?
I now return you to my reguarly scheduled user page--angrykeyboarder (a/k/a:Scott) 01:22, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome To The angrykeyboarder User Page
angrykeyboarder is a single 40-something male and a self-described Computer Geek (not to be confused with traditional geeks who are also often fond of Movies, Books and Computer Games that involve the genres known as Science Fiction and/or Fantasy - stuff he finds immensely dull).
angrykeyboarder does use his real first name (Scott) most everywhere on the Internets, but to protect his privacy (especially when it comes to nosey family members, future employers and general troublemakers), he does not use his real last name. And rather than a regular pseudonym, he's found it easier to use "angrykeyboarder" by itself. He generally signs any written work with just his first name (Scott).
angrykeyboarder stumbled upon his nickname by accident when he saw it used (only once) on an online forum sometime during 2004. He immediately adopted it and if one searches for the name "angrykeyboarder" on the Internets, odds are 95% that any hits will involve him.
angrykeyboarder felt the name was appropriate for himself for a number of reasons but mostly due to frequent anger brought on by his Bipolar Disorder, Type II.
angrykeyboarder spends most of his days at his computer and usually on the Internets.
His operating system of choice (subject to change) is Linux, but he is also very fond of Windows Vista "Ultimate" and therefore generally dual-boots. He enjoys experimentation which often necessitates reformatting his hard drives and reinstalling operating systems.
angrykeyboarder is fond of three different distributions of Linux. They are (generally in order of preference) Ubuntu/Kubuntu, Debian (Sid) and Fedora Core. As of this writing he has Ubuntu/Kubuntu and Windows Vista Ultimate installed on his computer. He has plans for some [[Gentoo}} and OpenSUSE Linux as well as Solaris and FreeBSD experimentation as well (although he'll never likely abandon his beloved Ubuntu or Windows Vista (the latter to the dismay of his fellow Linux fans).
angrykeyboarder is presently unemployed and disabled due to an illness known as Bipolar Disorder, Type II. He receives monthly disability income from the United States Social Security Administration.
In addition to Computers and Software, angrykeyboarder enjoys, Theatre (both Musicals and Plays), listening to music (usually Contemporary R&B), writing in third-person and follows the Commercial Aviation Industry.
angrykeyboarder can be found all over the Internets on various social networking websites, web forums, mailing lists, blogs, journals and Usenet Newsgroups. He also has a User ID/Screen name ("angrykeyboarder", naturally) on all the major Instant Messaging networks, although he's not been spotted on any of them much these days. He can be found even less often on IRC. Regardless "angrykeyboarder" is the name he uses everywhere (except on some of the older IRC networks that don't allow a nick of that length (such as efnet. On those networks he's usually "angrykeys".
angrykeyboarder maintains a web site at angrykeyboarder.com, although it looks pretty much the same as the day he first put it up in the summer of 2005. His intent was (and still is) to make it much more elaborate as well as to start a blog of his very own (not connected with any other domain). For that he will likely use WordPress on the blog.angrykeyboarder.com domain.
angrykeyboarder has no children and has never married (although he was engaged once). He presently resides in Phoenix, Arizona (1982-1996, 2004-present). He has also lived in Atlanta, Georgia (1996-2004) and wishes he were still there. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah (1960-1982). Unlike a majority of those from Utah, he has never been a Mormon. He is Agnostic.
And lastly, angrykeyboarder thinks Wikipedia is the greatest thing to happen to the Internets since NCSA Mosaic and that's precisely why you're reading this now.
