The article says: "Curiously, a similar flag can be seen on a painting by Willem van de Velde the Elder depicting a Dutch ship in action". I've looked at the linked image closely, but I can't find a flag of Suriname anywhere. I did see many former Dutch navy flags (redwhiteblueredwhiteblue), but no flag resembling the flag of Suriname.
