Talk:First Mexican Empire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The First (and Second) Mexican Empire are not "former" countries, anymore than the French Empire is a former country that existed in what today is France. Should we say that the Spanish Republic is a former country too? The First Empire is Mexico itself under a monarchical form of government. Should Mexico change his form of government back to monarchy (or to parliamentary democracy) the country will not cease to exist, and a new country (as a state) will not born, but simply a different regime that might operate under a different name. Metaphorically a new "country" can be born with any new president in office, but that is not the case. Claiming that the Mexican Empire was a different country is a biased historical revisionism with no sources to back it up. --the Dúnadan 00:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
