[edit] Club History
The Club was founded in 1960 as FC Ararat, and was based in city of Ararat (Not to be confused with FC Ararat Yerevan). In the beginning of the first Armenian Championship in 1992, the club was renamed to FC Tsement Ararat. In year 1998, Tsement won both the Championship and the Cup. The following year, Tsement yielded the championship to Shirak by 2 points and actually ended up on the third spot behind Ararat. However, the club managed to retain the Cup.
In the following year, Tsement was renamed again, and this time was given a more native name. The new name of the club would be FC Araks Ararat. Araks did very well that season and won the Championship Title. After this success, the owners of the club moved it to Yerevan under a new name; FC Spartak Yerevan (this Spartak Yerevan would later merge with FC Banants). At the same time, Araks Ararat would be re-established in the city of Ararat, but would have to settle for playing in the lowest division of Armenian Football.
Around year 2003, the club got into financial crisis, and by year 2005 it disappeared from the stage.
