[edit] Fishing?

The first line states that this is like Diablo or Diablo II, but with more fishing. I've never heard of the game before, so I'm not going to assume this is wrong, but considering that the rest of the article doesn't mention fishing could some one who knows what they are talking about either remove the fishing bit or add a description of this mechanic later in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.199.128.156 (talk) 16:30, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

It also says it's a roguelike. Diablo may be an evolution of the roguelike, but they aren't the same thing. Better to say 'Action RPG'. 4.231.133.44 (talk) 05:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
FATE contains a fishing minigame (of sorts). The use of the fish is discussed in the main article. 24.38.88.53 (talk) 17:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
The line about fishing looked really out of place there, so I removed it. Fishing isn't a major part of the game, so I see no reason to mention it right up front, and it is already mentioned later when discussing an aspect of the game that it does affect. I also made the suggested change of calling it an action RPG instead of a roguelike. The line about items containing sockets looks out of place too, but I'm not sure where to move that one. [edit] Fate or FATE

I've just noticed that WildTangent seem to call this game "FATE", whereas we're calling it "Fate". We probably should either

  1. WP:MOVE the article to "FATE (computer game)", or
  2. Change the first sentence to "Fate (also written as FATE) is a ..." and create FATE (computer game) as a redirect to Fate (computer game).

I prefer #2. Does anyone object (or have a better idea)? —Chris Chittleborough 15:02, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Actually since there is nothing else called FATE in all caps, we could move the article there: FATE and change references appropriately. -- MisterHand 17:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
  • It would take less work to use #2, but it wouldn't do to have it under the wrong heading either way. I say move it. —Anon user at 205.213.193.10 (talkcontribs), 9 May 2006

OK, I've edited the article and created FATE (computer game) and FATE as redirects to the article. Cheers, CWC(talk) 07:54, 9 May 2006 (UTC) No such luck, I'm afraid. Anybody familiar with FATE (role-playing game)? I think a disambiguation page is in order. Octavo 04:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC) (Oops, forgot to log in!) I went ahead and redirected FATE to Fate (Disambiguation) - not necessarily ideal, but a workable temporary solution at least. Octavo 05:15, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Virus?

User 68.117.40.37 (talk · contribs) added

This game comes with a Trojan, that is impossible to get rid of without removing the game and the Trojan with anti-virus programs.

under the heading "Virus". (This was the first anon edit from that IP address.) I don't think Wikipedia should make allegations like this without any evidence, so I deleted it. (If there's any truth to the claim, I'm one of the victims. Gulp?) Cheers, CWC(talk) 17:27, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

FYI, the Wild Tangent article has a section discussing their WildTangent Web Driver, WildTangent Multiplayer Library, WildTangent Updater and WildTangent GameChannel bundle of programs. Per the article, "WildTangent asserts that the software bundle is safe, but many anti-spyware programs classify it as adware/spyware, mainly because it reports activity and games played to various servers. Some experts feel that WildTangent's software is safe, but consider to be foistware as in many cases it is installed without the user's knowledge or express consent. It doesn't spy or deliver advertising, but is generally unwanted. (citation needed)"
Therefore that bundle is probably what the initial poster is referring to. I should mention that I have Fate installed on my machine, but my spyware program has never registered any of those programs or anything else involving Fate as being adware/spyware. So I can't personally vouch for the veracity of the report. Dugwiki 18:37, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that information. (I should have read that article more carefully when I edited it!) Cheers, CWC(talk) 04:15, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Version Listed

Ideally the version listed on this wiki entry should link to a page on the official site with the current version number, if such a page exists.

--I Need Sleepy... 17:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)I believe we should post/name off the different weapon and magic classes that are upgradeable through fame. It would give a little more insight on the basic gameplay. - Terrortree

[edit] Mod Archive

Iacio89 18:06, 23 June 2007 (UTC) : I've noticed that the link to the Fate mod archive is no longer working. If anyone has another link, then it should be replaced, or deleted if there isn't another one.

There was a brief sentence and link to a mod archive that was added recently. I moved the link to the line about a community database. I don't know if it was the same one that was originally mentioned, but I got to over 100 before I lost count, so it fits anyway. -Nesoo (talk) 03:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Freeware?

I've discovered that my new computer comes with FATE already installed alongside my Solitaire, Minesweeper, etc. Is this freeware? Am I missing features, such as the ability to mod it, that only come with the full game? Is my demo going to cease functioning after a time? I apologise to ask non-article questions, but it seemed a nice place to do it nevertheless. Maybe someone's who's been working on the article will know the answer.... Thanks. LordAmeth 18:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I got it with Windows Vista Home Basic. It seems like it'll work forever.--Viridistalk|contributions 04:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
I take that back. After a few plays Fate now wants me to pay to get the full version.--Viridistalk|contributions 09:36, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
If there's a source somewhere stating that this is now being given away with certain PCs, that may be worth adding to the article. -- MisterHand 11:50, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
My computer, which is a Windows XP came with the demo version. I'm guessing this is what you have, Viridis. If it is a demo, it won't let you descend past dungeon level 3 and you can only reach Level 7 with your character. Iacio89 18:00, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] modding

How do you mod? im not saying how to make mods, i mean how to get them to work in Fate/FATE.

See the WildGames forumn for that. Also, please keep discussion on topic (about improving the article), and not about the game itself. Thank you.

Hi there, I'm not sure where to place this topic so I am going to just add it here and hope someone can help me out with a particular problem I am having while playing Fate. By the way-(Great Game)but the problem I am having is I can not get past Level 13teen. When I try to descend from Level thirteen, my computer shows: Fate has encountered a problem and must shut down. It then says windows will try to find a solution to the problem but never does. I'm thinking maybe it could be a virus or my Vista Windows has something in it like a program that is doing this. My brother has the game and he has no problems whatsoever. Again I'm sorry if I added a topic in the wrong subtopic. If anyone knows of my problem, I would appreciate feed back. Thanks...
