Fashion capital
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A fashion capital is a location which is influential in fashion and in which fashion is important. A fashion capital would be the home of many top designers, modeling agencies, and the like.
Traditionally, the four major fashion capitals are Paris, London, Milan and New York.[1] Especially in recent years, however, the importance of the fashion industry has grown in other cities globally,[1] and other cities, such as Tokyo[2], are sometimes included in the list.
The Global Language Monitor recently ranked the top 25 world fashion capitals by tracking fashion-related words and phrases used in connection with the cities. The controversial list[3] ranked New York first followed by Rome, London, Paris, and Milan. Rounding out the top ten were Tokyo, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, and Singapore. The remainder included, Berlin, Sydney, Barcelona, Shanghai, Melbourne, Moscow, Bangkok, Mumbai, Santiago, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires, Johannesburg, Dubai, and Krakow.
Smaller fashion capitals include Buenos Aires,[4] Dubai,[4] Hong Kong,[5] Los Angeles,[5] Melbourne,[5] Mumbai,[4] Rome,[4] Rio de Janeiro,[5] Shanghai,[5] Singapore,[4] and Sydney.[5]
