This account has been
blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because of concerns that the chosen username may not meet our
username policy.
- This is often not a reflection on the user, and you are encouraged to choose a new account name which does meet our guidelines and are invited to contribute to Wikipedia under an appropriate username. If you feel this block was made in error, you may quickly and easily appeal it - see below.
Our username policy provides guidance on selecting your username. In brief, usernames should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, related to a 'real-world' group or organization, confusing, or misleading.
If you have already made edits and wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name you may request a change in username which is quick and easy. To do so, please follow these directions:
-
- Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page.
- At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note, you may only request a name that is not already in use. The account is created upon acceptance – do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change since we can far easier allocate your new name to you, if it is not yet used. Usernames that have already been taken are listed here. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username.
Last, the automated software systems that prevent vandalism may have been activated, which can cause new account creation to be blocked also. If you have not acted in a deliberately inappropriate manner, please let us know if this happens, and we will
deactivate the block as soon as possible. You may also
appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|
your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.
Your chosen username is clearly promotional, and hence not allowed in wikipedia. Please choose another. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 11:44, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.
Request reason: "Appreciate your proactive, diligent action Anthony. However in this instance I do not think a correct assessment has been made. You'll note from the content of submissions made here and [www.faberoptime.com my 'personal' website], that "Faber Optimé" is a personal moniker, produced and used explicitly in consolidation, embodiment and expression of my personal activities. It is not a company or organisation nor in or by its use am I seeking directly or indirectly to promote any such. You may also note that I have had this user name for quite some time on here, used previously and recently without objection and indeed making absolutely no promotional content whatsoever. I wished today to simply create a nominal user profile page on here to provide interested parties with means to acquire further information about me as an author, being assured that observation of contents on my web site would provide credibility. Under the circumstances I do not believe that I am in breach of Wikipedia policy (in word or spirit) in doing this and ask that my user name be reinstated. Faber Optimé (talk) 15:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)"
Decline reason: "If it were your given name, that would be one thing, but your own website - http://www.faberoptime.com/name.htm - says it is not a given name. — B (talk) 15:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)"
Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.
This blocked user is asking that his or her block be reviewed:
B, thank you for your rapid response. I appreciate your diligent attention. You correctly drew my attention to a page on my site that was indeed inconsistent with the stated intentions and general content. I acknowlege that this could easily have been misintepreted and I have immediately amended accordingly. Faber Optimé has no ongoing commercial activities nor staff, comprising just me, myself and I. No others are authorised to use this name (on my behalf or otherwise) for any (commercial/other) activities. I do not wish for this inadventent error to detract from the purpose and consistency secured by my using Faber Optimé as my user name, consistent with all my other internet activities and private works. In particular, I wish to point out that this minor error certainly does not fairly reflect the overwhelming, mass majority of the 'clearly personal' site content. With regards to your primary point about Faber Optimé not being my given name, I respectfully draw your attention to the user name policy:
Depending on how much anonymity you want to preserve, you may wish to base your username on your real name or a familiar nickname, or use a pseudonym which you do not use elsewhere; see Real names below. If you choose not to use your real name, you should pick a username that you are comfortable with, but also one that others are comfortable with, and which does not interfere with the project.
Faber Optimé is indeed a very familiar 'nickname', with which I publish personal blogs, YouTube videos, use on all personal emails, in addition to on my web site. In many respects I believe my using a differing user name would be a detraction from clarity to the project in terms of accurately identifying my personal contributions and involvement here and be of negative impact to perceived integrity.
Note: In some cases, a user may not in fact be blocked, or their block may be expired. Please check your block log. If no blocks are listed, or the latest one has already expired, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
Administrator use only: If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following as notification.

- I'd be inclined to let this one stay. I could easily be in the same situation. I don't own jpgordon.com, but if I did, would my ownership of it disallow my using jpgordon as my user name? Or, alternately, would it be a bad thing if I started up jpgordon.com myself? Assuming, of course, I didn't go about promoting the website on Wikipedia? --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 17:48, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
