[edit] Paranasal sinuses
Either we have pages about all four paranasal sinuses, or none; they are all categorically clumped together. Maxillary sinus is under reconstruction right now. I vote that all 4 paranasal sinuses get equal attention. The material concerning them is available in advanced medical textbooks and reference books. I personally refer to the Merck Manual (17th Edition) when trying to describe bodily parts.
This reminds me: how non-technical should wikipedia be? When using medical jargon, one uses word like "distal" and "proximal." Should it be easy to read or highly technical? (e.g., as "runny nose" as opposed to "rhinorrhea")
[edit] Chronic sinus problems
Hello all. I am very new at this and I am not sure if anyone can help me. About 4 years ago I went to an ENT specialist to have the 'Roman' hump removed from my nose. I also had breathing problems with my nasal airways and these were 'fixed' at the same time as my nose was reshaped. After that operation my breathing was 110% better than ever before, however it appeared he had taken too much off my nose and it looked flat and squashed and he had still left the hook at the tip of my nose. No problems he said, we can go back in and 'pack it out' again to get the desired shape. In I went again for surgery. This time however the nose shape is better (still not exactly what I was after but it will have to do) but I now have a blocked kind of swelling sensation on the left side of my nose. It seems to come and go to an extent and when it is at its worst it feels like someone has inflated a balloon in the left side of my face. I put up with it for several months before going back to Dr ENT. In I went for surgery again this time for a procedure to make my nasal openings bigger. Again no joy. It has now got to the stage where it is starting to affect the sight in my left eye. I can feel swelling which feels like it is pushing up against the bottom of my left eye ball and I constantly see 'floaters' in my eye. I have seen my GP and she gave me two different types of antibiotics over a 6 week period. Still no change. I don't know if it is a structural problem with the bones in my nose or if it some sort of blockage. At times it feels to me like it could be either of the two. When it is really bad the pain it causes extends to the left side of my forehead, down the left side of my nose and underneath my left eyeball and as I said before, it feels as if a balloon has been inflated in the left side of my face. When it is at it's best, the pain subsides considerably however the balloon is still there but only half inflated. This condition is causing me a great deal of stress. I have been to another ENT doctor and after checking my sinuses with a scope ( a very quick check) he stated he could find nothing wrong. He also looked at some CT scans which were done post my last surgical procedure. He stated that there was an infection which at the time of examination appeared to have completely cleared up. He could see no evidence of it during his examination of me with the scope. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Victoria, Australia.
Thanks,
