[edit] Boxes

It seems to me that this article suffering from boxitis; overuse of template boxes or whatever you call them. "Tánaiste" and "President of Ireland" are clearly redundant and can be removed without great harm, since links are already included in other boxes. Also, the "Cabinet Minister" box seems rather superfluous; can't the succession list for each post simply be listed once on the relevant page, ie, Irish Minister for Lands? -- Viajero 22:03, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

While I'd agree with you about the "Tánaiste" and "President of Ireland" boxes, the Cabinet Minister boxes do seem to serve a purpose as the official name of the job has changed many times over the years and it's easier to track down who was doing which job by the person's name - the "Minister for Lands" job which Childers held is now the Irish Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, but has been:
    • Minister for Fisheries 1921-1930
    • Minister for Lands & Fisheries 1930-1937
    • Minister for Lands 1937-1977
    • Minister for Fisheries 1977-1978
    • Minister for Fisheries & Forestry 1978-1986
    • Minister for Tourism, Fisheries & Forestry 1986-1987
    • Minister for Marine 1987-1997
    • Minister for Marine & Natural Resources 1997-2002
    • Minister for Communications, Marine & Natural Resources 2002-present

I don't see any problem with the boxes. On the contrary I know third level students have been visiting the Irish politicians' page on wikipedia because of the depth of information. Previously students visited Nealon's Guides as a source of information, but now they are being told also to look at wikipedia. I do think Tánaiste and President boxes are important for they link what are constitutionally the first and third most important Irish state offices, head of state and deputy prime minister. I think it would be a mistake to delete any of them. Maybe a new template should be created, but the idea behind them is spot on and these pages are a credit to whomever put on the information. (Someone in college asked me if I was responsible. Regrettably the answer is 'no'. My main boxes have been on papal conclave pages.) FearÉIREANN 22:32, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Date of Birth

An anon has just changed the date of birth from 11 November to 11 December. On checking other sources, I find that he is correct. Looks like an honest mistake on the second edit to the article, unspotted until now! --Jumbo 05:04, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
