[edit] Neutral country

Hi, it appears that the page Neutral country was heavily edited and moved. A request for restoring the old title has been already filed, but the content itself still requires work. It appears that a great mass of text was added without incorporating it into the flow of the text. This requires some repairing. --Vuo 13:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Portuguese Macau Coat of Arms.GIF

Thanks for uploading Image:Portuguese Macau Coat of Arms.GIF. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Concerning Holocaust & Genocide

Hey Eric, concerning your idea for a Holocaust and Genocide WikiProject I think it should have it's own wikiproject. There are quite a few artile to do with Genocides and the Holocaust so a place to call home for them should be beneficial. So I'll support your bid to have this created into a WikiProject. :) Kyriakos 09:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I, too, support your call for a WikiProject - I can't say that I'd contribute much to articles in that field, but here's hoping that a WikiProject will help to set some standards or at least start serious consensus-setting discussions as to what does and does not count as genocide, etc. Good luck! LordAmeth 12:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Concur w/ everyone. I can help w/ the technicalities (i.e. setting it up). -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 13:09, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
A portal would also be useful here, although I would suggest starting with a general "genocide portal." If you need assistance wih creating a portal, there are plenty of experienced portal ceators within WPMILHIST who I'm sure would be willing to help you out. Carom 16:06, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, a project is a major undertaking, intended to expand and improve coverage of a particular area of knowledge, i.e the Military history WikiProject, the LGBT studies WikiProject or the Biography WikiProject. Projects may also develop (nonbinding) guidelines for writing articles on a particular topic, provide specialized peer review or assessent processes, and serve as a central location for general discussion on the topic. Setting up a new project on Genocide or the Holocaust would require getting together a group of editors willing to work together and set up the infrastructure, etc - it can be a lot of work.
A portal, on the other hand, simply displays Wkipedia content in a useful way - it brings together articles, images, and other information on a particular topic and arranges it on a page in a way that is (hopefully) attractive and easy to navigate. See Portal:War, Portal:World War I, Portal:Italian Wars for some military-related examples. One user can, by themselves, put together and maintain a portal without any real difficulty. Carom 20:17, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Your brand new portal skeleton is located at Portal:Genocide! If you need any help putting things together, let me know. Carom 21:06, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Helpme request: Portal image

I've been working on the genocide portal. My issue is, though, that I can't successfully get an article or picture to appear on the page when I want it to. Please help me with that. Thanks. --EricSRodrigues154 23:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Are you saying that after you save an edit, it does not appear on the portal/picture page? --24fan24 (talk) 23:22, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
It looks like the image you are trying to use is not uploaded to Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Uploading images for more information. —Centrxtalk • 23:24, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

In regards to the news section of Portal:Genocide, you should be able to edit that section by editing the text here --24fan24 (talk) 23:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I've fixed a few things for you over there - you have to create a subpage for "selected whatever," i.e Portal:Genocide/Selected article, and then place the images or text onto the subpages of that page; this make your portal skeleton work correctly. Carom 23:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem; portals can be a little complex - just let me know if I can do anything else! Carom 23:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Were you trying to use [[Image:Rwanda poster.jpg]]? I can't find any image with the title you used in the portal... Carom 23:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've reduced the size of the first image - you can see the wikimarkup I used to do so by going to Portal:Genocide/Selected picture/1 and entering edit mode. Carom 00:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
You also want to add caption and photo credits - see, for example Portal:Royal Navy/Selected picture/1. Carom 00:14, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Hey, when you add a link to the portal to an article page, you want to place it at the bottom of the article, in either the "see also" or "references" section, and you want to use the {{portal}} template. You can see what I mean in the Genocide article, where I've moved the link to the "see also" section and used the template.Carom 04:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I think I had already answered you question (at least partially). Please see Portal talk:Genocide and as there if there is anything else you wish me to explain. --Philip Baird Shearer 06:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright status of Image:WhichShouldBeTheInspirationForTheGenocideLogo1to5.PNG

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Image:WhichShouldBeTheInspirationForTheGenocideLogo1to5.PNG. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2005/01/27/auschwitz050127.html in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Image:WhichShouldBeTheInspirationForTheGenocideLogo1to5.PNG with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Image:WhichShouldBeTheInspirationForTheGenocideLogo1to5.PNG with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Image:WhichShouldBeTheInspirationForTheGenocideLogo1to5.PNG saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:European settlements in India 1498-1739.PNG

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:European settlements in India 1498-1739.PNG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 03:29, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
