[edit] About Floater

I was thinking about removing the page for their discography, and instead putting the album names and years on their main page, and giving each album its own article.

Seems to make more sense to me, rather than having one big article for the entire discography.

I did kind of what they did for Nirvana's discography. Granted, it's not as polished, but that's kind of what I was thinking. The point was just to cut the information from Floater's article that didn't really belong here (i.e. Track listings). If you feel doing it your way will work out better, you have my blessing. It is highly debatable if that band play that style of music (compare them to any of the other bands in the genre, they have nothing to do with them or their style).. it needs to be emphasised that they are not somehow part of that scene or even accepted amongst it, rather they are among the metalcore, post hardcore and other Warped Tour affilated bands and fan bases. Also some anon keeps vandalising the article changing their genre to things that don't exist, not sure why. - Deathrocker 02:51, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

The short of it: no, plenty of the early 90s punk scene in Seattle had little or nothing to do with grunge. It was a very diverse musical scene, even if you stay more or less within the punk-influenced. The Fastbacks were pop-punk, The Squirrels even poppier but with undeniable punk influences; Gas Huffer's punk had a strong influence from rockabilly; The Fartz were just plain hardcore. There were probably 75-100 good working bands with punk influences, and another 75-100 other first-rate bands in town (among the notable non-punks were Presidents of the United States of America, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Amy Denio, Skerik, Sky Cries Mary). The Gits and 7 Year Bitch were definitely punk, but they weren't grunge. At the time, no one who was into "classifying" bands called 7 Year Bitch "grunge": they had to fend off the riot grrl label, a scene they respected but did not feel part of.

7 Year Bitch owe more musically to The Gits than to anyone else, and although The Gits were based in Seattle, they were basically a transplanted Ohio band.

I have much basis to know what I'm talking about; I'm willing to explain by email, but not to post publicly. You apparently don't accept Wikipedia email, but feel free to email me and I will write back. -- Jmabel | Talk 04:30, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.

The Alternative music WikiProject Newsletter Issue 13 - April 2008

"God is in your scrotum!'"- Perry Farrell Project news This month was the first in over a year in which no articles were promoted to featured article status. In the period between March 2007 and April 2008, the project produced a whopping 70 Featured Articles. Let's keep adding to those numbers! Pearl Jam was featured on the Main Page on April 22. We collaborated on My Bloody Valentine, The Queen Is Dead, Double Nickels on the Dime and Ten (Pearl Jam album) during the past month. During the month of April, Diorama (album), Editors, Neon Bible, Ghosts I–IV, "Yes! I Am a Long Way from Home" and "Who Really Cares (Featuring the Sound of Insanity)" were promoted to good article status. This month's "Recommended Alternative Album" is Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out (1997).

New members Arleach, Panic!out, N0tverycreative, and Gallagher2x2 joined the alternative music fold during April. Editors User:WesleyDodds

It doesn't come easy."- Nick Cave Project news "Touch Me I'm Sick", Diorama (album) and Nine Inch Nails live performances reached featured article status in the past month! Well done to Indopug, Dihydrogen Monoxide, and Drewcifer3000. The discographies of Sonic Youth, The Libertines, Foo Fighters and Smoking Popes reached featured list status during the past month. Well done to Drewcifer3000, Indopug, Tenacious D Fan and Teemu08. We collaborated on Superunknown, Supergrass, Kate Bush and Foo Fighters during the past month. During the month of May, The Killers (band), "Under the Bridge", Death Cab for Cutie, Bloc Party, Coldplay, Beck and Ten (Pearl Jam album) were promoted to good article status. This month's "Recommended Alternative Album" is Cocteau Twins - Treasure (1984).

New members Seraphim Whipp, Guitardude3600, Lunar Jesters, Kristmace, Freedom (song), TwentiethApril1986, JD554, Thom, and Sethward joined the alternative music fold during May. Editors User:WesleyDodds
