[edit] Origins
In the fictional World Of Darkness series of RPG games, created by White Wolf, the Embrace refers to the act of siring a vampire.
[edit] Method
The mechanics are fairly standard amongst Vampire mythos- first the intended victim must be drained of all blood, then the (dying) victim is offered the blood or Vitae of a vampire. Note that the blood offered does not have to be from the same vampire who drained the victim's blood, indeed it is possible to Sire a vampire from any incapacitated mortal, providing there is enough blood loss. The smallest drop of blood will revive the victim enough to drink more.
If the victim drinks the blood, usually a reflexive action, it reanimates them, thereby making them a new vampire.
Often, the new vampire will be extremely hungry, having essentially no blood in their system- thus, the first act of many fledgeling vampires is a hunger frenzy or their Sire brings a meal (a human) for their new childer.
Failure to drain the blood of the victim prior to giving them vitae will instead result in the creation of a ghoul. Drinking the blood of another vampire, or giving your blood to a vampire will (after several sessions) create a blood bond between the drinker and the drinkee.
[edit] Law
Under the law of the Camarilla, it is expressly forbidden to sire a childe without the express permission of the local prince. Often, if the Prince discovers this breach of the laws, a Blood Hunt will be called against the sire, the childer or both.
Rarely, as seen in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, the sire will be executed, and the childer suffered to live, despite the illegality of their Embrace
