Elsenham is a small village in north west Essex in southern England. Its neighbouring towns include Bishop's Stortford, Saffron Walden, and Stansted Mountfitchet. The village is also approximately 3 miles from Stansted Airport. A highly publicised expansion of the airport could include new road and rail links passing within the village boundaries.
The village is served by a railway station and has one pub called The Crown. A pub called the Robin Hood closed in the late 80's. A small row of shops on the high street includes a One Stop convenience store, Options hairdressers and a small Post Office. Until recently it had a fish and chip shop which was previously a butcher and is now an Indian takeaway called the Star of India.
As of March 2008, Elsenham has been shortlisted by the British Government as a potential site for an 'eco-town'.
