I took out the line added yesterday that said, "The more likely and known reason [for the town's name] is the original settler, Bristow, had a daughter by the name of Elmira and named the area after her." That would be very interesting if it's true -- and if there's a source for it, it should be put back in. But the only references I can find (and there aren't many) all support the story that the name came from Elmira, NY.--Gary Will 17:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Darryl Sittler was born in Kitchener and raised in nearby St. Jacobs. I have removed his name from the list of people from Elmira. He did play Jr. B hockey in Elmira.
