[edit] Work
[edit] Debut (2005-2007)
Biado wrote his first published article for a short-lived lifestyle magazine, Icon, in late 2004. It was printed in the January-March 2005 issue of the then-quarterly magazine.[3] His first contribution to Manila Standard Today was a travel piece, "Northern exposure," which came out in the May 3, 2007 edition of the newspaper.[4] One of his notable features is a semi-indepth investigation on the phenomenon that surrounds the migration of Brazilian models to the Philippines. It was a story entitled "Brazilian invasion."[5] He also submitted an article to the Philippine Daily Inquirer's youth opinion-oriented YoungBlood column, "Moderation," which made it on print on July 24, 2007.[6]
He coined the word "nocturnalist" in his articles. His definition means a person who enjoys the nightlife and clubbing.[7][8] Borrowing from the "Young Hollywood" concept, he collectively calls the new breed of rich and famous Manilans as "Young Manila," specifically in his articles about dance parties.[9][10][11]
[edit] The Daily 10 (2008-present)
Aside from his Manila Standard Today features, he has been writing a daily column entitled The Daily 10 since February 8, 2008.[12] In it, he lists down ten things covering different lifestyle aspects according to the section's theme of the day.
Biado started to dabble in other fields within the publishing realm in early 2008. In Manila Standard Today's "Hello 2 Life!" special supplement, out April 15, 2008, he was credited as both the stylist of the fashion spread and the writer of the accompanying story.[13] He continues to engage in wordplay, referring to people who live in Metro Manila as "Metronians."[14] His article startlingly titled "OMFG!" comes with a fashion editorial that he styled.[15]
[edit] Quotes
- He was quoted by Ollie P. Quiniquini of Pro Audio Asia in an article, "New heights" for giving positive feedback on a Manila dance club, Ascend.[16][17]
- Sock Shop referred to him as a style guru and quoted his advice to men when styling themselves.[18] According to their website in an article entitled "The style crime of pattern overuse,"
Fashionable men should not overdo their use of pattern, a style guru has commented. Ed Biado, writing for the Manila Standard Today, remarked that many men overuse both colour and pattern, leading to a cluttered and mismatched look instead of the elegant coolness they may wish to exude. Solids are safe, he commented and stripes, herringbones and other patterns can be a good addition to an outfit but must be limited to avoid a style solecism. Mr Biado added: "Stripes, herringbones and argyle are fine as long as they make it onto your outfit on their own ... For an added kick, match the patterns of your tie and socks."[19]
- Sock Shop says:
Socks are a "basic" consideration for any well-dressed man and attractive socks are an indispensible addition to all male wardrobes, an expert has commented. Fashion adviser Ed Biado, writing for the Manila Standard Today, urged men to check their wardrobes contain essential basics such as shirts, a dark suit and smart leather shoes. Males should make sure they have dress socks to wear with their suits, not sport socks and never white socks, he argued. "Dress socks that are long enough to cover the part of your legs that are not covered by your pants when sitting down are the only acceptable kind," the commentator added.[20][21]
- Kullhadd, a Maltese newspaper, used his "Most romantic places in the world" list, where Malta is listed in, as a reference in their article, "Blue Lagoon ghal Qamar il-Ghasel."[22][23]
