East Sussex Scout County (The Scout Association)

Scouting in East Sussex is part of the Scout Association in the United Kingdom. It has about 100 groups in rural and urban locations.

Scouting is organised in nine Scout Districts:-

The largest Scout District is Ashdown District with 240 members. The largest Group in East Sussex is the 1st Crowborough Scouts which was founded in 1908. It consists of three Beaver Scout Colonies, three Cub Scout Packs, two Scout Troops and one Explorer Scout Unit.

There are six Scout camp sites in East Sussex, of which the largest is Broadstone Warren Scout Site and Activity Centre.

[edit] 1st Ewhurst Scout Troop

The opening meeting of the 1st Ewhurst Scout Troop was held on the lawn of Robert and Olave Baden-Powell's home, Ewhurst Place, on 1913-06-21. The Scoutmaster was Olave and the assistant Scoutmasters were Annie Court, housemaid to the Baden-Powells, and the gardener. At the opening meeting, they used the Union flag that had flown over Mafeking during the siege of 1889-90.
