recent earthquake tragedies have tended to show the deadly combination of blind-thrust earthquakes and poor construction. Zeizmic 12:21 30 May 2003 (UTC)

merge earthquake management taken care of, will put in seismic retrofit link. --Zeizmic 12:47, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] No mention of bearings, counterweights, or other mechanical means

We need a subject matter expert to address more exotic eartquake constructions techniques including:

  • Dampened Bearings -- allows portion of the building above the foundation to remain relatively stable while the earth and foundation shifts laterally
  • Active Counterweights -- actively controlled counterweights in upper parts of the structure are moved to counteract swaying, keeping the structure relatively stable
  • Others??
