Description

A Grumman E-1B Tracer AEW-aircraft (BuNo 148923) of airborne early warning squadron VAW-121 Det. 42 Griffins about to launch from the starboard catapult of the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) in February 1970. The "Willy Fudd" (nickname of the E-1) was assigned to Carrier Air Wing Six (CVW-6) (tailcode "AE") on a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from January to July 1970. One of CVW-6s UH-2A/B Seasprite plane guard helicopters of helicopter combat support squadron HC-2 Det. 42 Fleet Angels is visible in the background.
