[edit] Re: (User talk:Ais523) User:Ais523/catwatch.js

You didn't install the script using any of the usual methods; it should still have worked, but I changed it to a more normal method of installing, in case that was the problem. The problem in your case turns out to be that the categories you're trying to watch are too large; the watchlisting script only watches categories with at most 100 members at present to prevent excessive load on the servers (the categories you're trying to watch are both larger than this). I've changed the limit to 200; bypass your cache and the script should work again, at least for a while. (Note that one of the categories you're watching has 196 members, so it may hit the limit again soon.) Hope that helps! --ais523 16:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Recent technology changes mean that I may soon be able to leave out the limit altogether (I think they've added a 'cheap' way to do the query that will replace the 'expensive' one I'm using currently); bear with me a bit, and I'll try to look into it later. --ais523 12:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, looking into it a bit further, the exact feature needed to remove the limit doesn't exist at present, but hopefully the developers will be able to add it soon. If there's no progress on that request in a reasonable length of time, though, or my request can't be fulfilled for some reason, I'll look into increasing the limit further. --ais523 12:59, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to developer Roan Kattouw fixing feature request 11275, I've now been able to remove the limit. Bypass your cache, and you should now be able to watch categories of any size. --ais523 16:53, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
You can use the script on other wikis, but it's a bit complicated. You first need to copy User:ais523/catwatch.js and User:ais523/WatchedCategoriesTemplate.js to your own username on the other wiki. There are then various parts you need to translate into the local language to get the script working correctly; three occurences of Category: and nine occurences of en.wikipedia.org need to be changed to the equivalents on hrwiki. You also need to change all four occurences of User: that aren't in the /* comment */ at the top of the script, and the last occurrence of Ais523 to your own username. You also need to allow for the date format used on the other wiki; that would mean changing the line
mn2=""+new Number(latesttime.substr(8,2))+" "+monthname[latesttime.substr(5,2)]+
to
mn2=""+new Number(latesttime.substr(8,2))+". "+monthname[latesttime.substr(5,2)]+
, and also translating the month names into Croatian (looking at my watchlist in hrwiki, it looks as though they ought to start with a lowercase initial letter).
Also, importScript doesn't seem to have been programmed on hrwiki yet, so you would need to use a different method of importing the script; the following code (for your monobook.js) works, I think:
document.write('<sc'+'ript type="text/javascript" src="'
             + 'http://hr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?'
             + 'title=Suradnik:Dvorsky/catwatch.js'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript"></scr'+'ipt>');
You might want to translate the comments and examples into Croatian, too, but this isn't required for the script to work. Sorry if this is somewhat complicated; translating a script can be quite difficult. (You may also want to see it:Utente:Jalo/Catwatch.js for the only other foreign-language translation that's been done of (an older version of) this particular script.) Hope that helps! --ais523 16:13, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about not noticing your comment earlier (it's nearly a month...) The only problem I can see is that you forgot the commas at the end of the rows on your WatchedCategories.js on hrwiki (each category except the last needs a comma at the end); I may have missed other problems, though. --ais523 11:21, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wii/Wii Only

Actually, exclusive games are supposed to go in both categories (i.e. Super Mario Galaxy is supposed to be in both [[Category:Wii games]] and [[Category:Wii-only games]]. TJ Spyke 23:02, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Neither category will ever be filled. Notice how the Wii games is 2 pages? It started off as 1 page. Once it reaches 401 games it will automatically created a third page. You don't have to worry about the category ever running out of space. TJ Spyke
Categories can be set up to have a TOC (so if someone clicks on "S", it will take them to the page where games starting with S appear on). TJ Spyke 06:27, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
