Douzains is notable for two reasons. The Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte is known to have visited the Chateau of Biron, during this visit the Emperor was out hunting, when a sudden thunder storm forced the party to seek shelter, the Emperors horse stumbled on a small bridge and he was thrown injuring his arm, The Emperor was carried to a nearby barn where he rested until a carriage arrived from the Chateau to collect him, in retribution the Emperor ordered the bridge to be demolished.

Douzains was also the birthplace of Vindau DeMista the inventor of the automotive windscreen wiper.
