Doug Hattaway

Douglas "Doug" Hattaway (born 1964) is an American communications consultant and spokesperson who has served dozens of major organizations, political campaigns, and government leaders in the U.S. and around the world. Hattaway appears regularly as a public affairs analyst and commentator on CNN, MSNBC and the FOX News Channel. He currently serves as president of his global consulting firm, Hattaway Communications, and as an advisor to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign.[1]
In 2000, Hattaway served as the national spokesman for the Gore/Lieberman presidential campaign[2] and was the Democrats' lead spokesman during the Florida recount, which has been called "the political story of the century." Hattaway worked as Communications Director for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the anthrax attack on the U.S. Capitol. He’s served as press secretary to New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen, the state’s first female governor, and as a consultant to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, the state’s first African-American governor.

Hattaway graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a major in Political Science. He received his Master of Arts at Florida State University.
He has lectured at a wide variety of institutions including: Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Business School, Cornell University, Miami University, Smith College, Markle Foundation, American Society of Political Consultants, Campaigns & Elections magazine, Radio and Television News Directors Foundation, Progress (United Kingdom) and Democrats Abroad.
In 2002, he chaired a conference for government communications officers entitled, “Reinventing Media Relations for Government Post 9/11,” sponsored by the American Conference Institute. During the 1990s, he worked as a freelance foreign correspondent in South and Central America, Northern Ireland, and the Caribbean.

As founder and President of Hattaway Communications, Inc., Hattaway has worked with clients in the Americas, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa. The firm works with nonprofit and advocacy organizations, foundations, corporations, and political figures. It specializes in integrating marketing, communications, interactive technology and grassroots organizing in order to develop strategy, messaging, and communications products. The firm lists some of its clients as: the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Center for American Progress, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and Gather.com.
