Double Arts (ダブルアーツ Daburu Ātsu?) is a manga series by Naoshi Komi (直志古味 Naoshi Komi?). It began serialization in the April 7th, 2008 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump. The story begins with the female protagonist Sister Elraine Figarette (エルレイン・フィガレット erurein figaretto?) describing a plague that has troubled her world for hundreds of years, and explaining her job as a Sister. The plague is spread by physical contact. "Sisters" are women with high resistance to the plague, who travel to treat its victims by absorbing the poison it creates (called Troi/Troy (トロイ toroi?) ). The plague proceeds in stages through the infected, eventually causing them to become transparent and disappear, with only their clothes remaining. Sisters can slow this process but in turn speed up the progress of the plague in themselves, and can still spread the Troi by physical contact.
Later in chapter one, she meets up with the male protagonist Kiri Luchile (キリ・ルチレ kiri ruchire?) , a normal boy with artistic skills and seems to have an immunity to the Troi virus.
Kiri and Elraine are currenly in Deodradd with Sui looking for a man by the name of Fallan Denzel while they wait for their protection from Falzen.
[edit] Characters
Sister Elraine Figarette is the female protagonist of this story. Also known as "Ellie". Sister Elraine is one of the traveling Sisters. Her job is to treat the fatal illness often referred as "Troi". Once infected with Troi, the disease begins to make the body produce poison that, once enough of it has accumulated, causes that person's body to go into a seizure and disappear. When Sisters treat a patient they absorb the poison out of their body and take it into their own, shortening their lives as a result. Because of this Elraine went into a seizure. But when Kiri, an ordinary spiky-haired boy, touched her hand the seizure went away. So then, if Kiri ever were to let go of Elraine's hand, Elraine would have a seizure and die.
When Elraine was only eight, she had already become a sister. She is currently sixteen years old and she has "healed" more people than any other sister, numbering somewhere in the thousands. She is called "the white fairy" by Sister Martha. She has gained a great reputation among all the sisters, all of which look up to her. Elraine, however was completely unaware of her celebrity-like status. Now that Elraine has found the cure for Troi in Kiri, all of the sisters hold her in even higher esteem.
Kiri Luchile is the male protagonist. Kiri is just your average blonde spiky-haired boy, except for the fact that he appears to be completely immune to the disease referred as "Troy." When Elraine was having a seizure, Kiri touched her hand and the seizure stopped. Ever since then Kiri has had to hold Elraine's hand or she will die. In chapter 5, it is shown that Kiri's ability isn't limited to immunity to Troi. Kiri seems the ability to speed up the healing rate of somebody, just by physical contact. In reality, Kiri, and whoever is holding onto him, has their vitality boosted. Plus, for the amount of people touching Kiri (and anyone who is touching Kiri, and anyone who is doing that), their strength is multiplied by how many people are in contact with Kiri. For example, Kiri and Elraine are always together, so their strength is doubled, if someone else have contact with them, their strength is tripled, once again, another person, their strength is quadrupled, and so on. Using this ability, Kiri, Elraine, and several people, together they could lift up what seems like a giant boat or house. Kiri calls this technique, "Flare". Kiri is very kindhearted and willing to do anything for anyone. This is show while he and Elraine are escaping, he stops and argues with her, because he wants to return to help the other sisters, and he eventually drags her back with him, to help them.
Sui is Kiri's old childhood friend, but as Kiri puts it, "things are a bit different now." She is, according to Sui herself, also his ex-girlfriend. Sui had confessed to Kiri 3 times and dumped him 3 times. As of now, she has said that she is currently going out with 10 guys at the same time. Sui first appears at Kiri's house but when she sees Elraine, Sui simply grins and walks away. Sui apparently stalks Kiri looking to get into fights with people. Sui is a very skilled fighter, and her main weapon is a large metal hoop, similar to a hula-hoop, which she calls "Avis." It can be used for both offense and defense. Sui is also heavily obssesed with cherries, which she eats on a constant basis.
Mink Luchile is Kiri's mother. She has the appearance of a young girl. So much so that Elraine initially mistook her for Kiri's little sister. She is very talkative and kind. She often jokes with Kiri, asking if he's tried to do "anything" with Elraine or otherwise take advantage of their hand-holding situation. Mink accepts Elraine despite her having Troi.
Urates Luchile is Kiri's Father. In contrast to his wife, he is large to the point of gigantic, and very quiet. He is shown to be kind-hearted, and apparently is a fantastic cook.
Heime is the current guard for the St. Aruru's church, not too far from Darme. Until Falzen arrives, he is to protect Elraine and Kiri. He is currently injured from the attack by Zezu.
Sister Rose is the current head sister of St. Aruru's church. She is very generous, yet strong willed. She helps Kiri and Elraine, and asks Heime to guard them. According to Edda, another sister at St. Aruru's church, Sister Rose is an excellent cook. She faced Zezu in combat to give Elraine and Kiri time to escape, but Sister Rose and all other sisters are severely injured, especially Edda, whom Kiri held her hand to help keep her and Heime alive using flare to speed up the healing.
Lucci Zezu is one of the leaders of the Gazelle, and is also one of the eleven original founders. Zezu's skills are currently beyond everybody elses, and appears to have the ability of teleportation.
Fallan Denzell is a mysteroius person recomended by sister Martha whom Kiri and Elraine are to visit in Deodradd, a nearby town. He is aparently a very skilled fighter and is feared by many. He also has many apprentices around the world, however he appears to have something of an eccentric personality, as his first line involves requesting a Children's meal at a Cafe, and ensuring it comes with full decoration.
Prophecy Woman is the local fortune teller in Deodradd, and a friend of Mink. She is a heavy drunkard and has bottles allthrough out her office or appartment. Her real name is unknown, but she is currently under the alias Tisera Gordon. Her true purpose for this is currenly unknown. She helped Kiri and Elraine in their search for Fallan Denzell.
