This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. violet/riga (t) 09:58, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Can this be moved back to Donegal Town, 'Donegal' on it's own universally indicates the county, viz. 'Donegal beat Derry in Football' (obviously the county not the town), 'I'm from Donegal' (one would never assume that they are from Donegal Town), and finally 'the new road (N16 road) bypasses Donegal Town' (you must include the 'Town' part for this to make sense) . Perhaps Donegal should be a disambiguation page between the two. I've increased the emphasis on the existing disambiguation ('other uses') note at the top of the page by including a direct link to County Donegal. Any one else agree? --Muxxa 23:17, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Agree. Users overwhelmingly mean the county. Don't see how Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names)#Ireland impacts on anything. Pathlessdesert 17:19, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Disagree I would agree that when people say Donegal they usual mean the county but if you check Tipperary, Kildare, Wexford, Wicklow, the same "problem" occurs. Unless you are going to change the lot back, the town of Donegal stays as just Donegal. It's only for villages like Mayo, County Mayo that a change in name is used. Besides all the counties use the format County + Name.Afn 17:41, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
A little addition. I was looking at the cso figures just now and they refer to Donegal town as Donegal. If some can confirm this, the official name does not use town but is only used to on signs etc to differentiate the County from the town. Afn 17:56, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Population figures wrong.
Just that.
[edit] Links?
http://donegaltownrfc.com/ doesn't seem to work, redirects to some Indian site? http://www.donegaltownrfc.com/ either goes to a 404 page, or to "The Internation Chamber of E-Commerce".
