She was born in Utah, U.S. on December 5, 1974 and moved to the Philippines when she was five years old. She is the eldest daughter of an American father and a Filipina mother from Pangasinan^{[citation needed]} but migrated to Angeles City in Pampanga. Donita has three siblings.

Rose was FHM's 2001 Sexiest of the Philippines. Donita married Eric Villarama in June 2003 and the couple moved to Singapore in 2002. Her husband once worked as a Senior Art Director in the US, now works as a TRYBE (formerly known as Thumbs-Up!) Project Manager in Singapore. The couple's son, Joshua Paul Villarama, born in 2003, is named after her two younger brothers. Donita and Eric are born-again Christians, being members of a local fellowship.

Eric has not only taken up citizenship in Singapore where he currently lives, but he has also taken up citizenship in Japan before. However, Donita has only taken up citizenship in the Philippines and Singapore.
