Nicholas Duggan

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Nicholas Duggan, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:NorthCoastBrewingCo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:NorthCoastBrewingCo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:40, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank You

Dear Dgies,

Thank you for the advice regarding my edit conflict problem.

Sock puppets

User:Hebog seems to be part of a sock puppet farm documented here: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/EdPuw. For some reason, the investigation was never concluded, not all of the trolling was cleaned up and though the sock puppeteer seems to have stopped his activities some accounts remain unblocked. It's pretty obvious when you look at the edit history of User:Emyr411's page that a lot of monkey business has been going on. Unfortunately, I'm not an admin so I don't have the means to deal with this mess but the whole lot needs fixing and maybe those accounts should be blocked to stop him coming back in 2008. Cheers. --Folantin (talk) 16:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Archive box

I am attempting to make a new archive box, in which there is no width parameter, and one of the few pages still using the width parameter is this page. Is there any way possible to remove the width parameter from this box? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MrKIA11 (talk) 21:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Fnu Lnu

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fnu Lnu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Fnu Lnu. AfD nomination of Fnu Lnu

I have nominated Fnu Lnu, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fnu Lnu. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Redirects and merges

Hi, just to let you know that when you redirect articles after mergers, you should add {{R from merge}} to the redirect page. This means that the article should not be deleted to preserve the GFDL and authors. Regards. Woody (talk) 22:03, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I think once upon a time I knew that but forgot. Thanks for the reminder. —dgiestc 22:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Undo

Hi Dgies, I have no problem with your reverting my edit to Jerome Kerviel, but I peronally find that stacking the citations makes it much more difficult to edit because it seriously breaks up the flow of text in the editing box. I don't know if there is any guideline on this. Joshdboz (talk) 18:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Not that I've found. I personally favor citation markup readability over prose markup readability because it's much trickier to create/maintain a citation template than it is regular prose. Additionally, errors in citations tend to go unfixed much longer. I agree that if citations never needed to be touched it would be best to collapse them, but since they need to be edited, its best to make that as easy as possible. —dgiestc 18:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I don't think your revert has basis in guidelines (nor do I think your rationale has evidencible basis in reality). It's just a matter of personal preference. But if you reverted rather than re-expanding the refs I collapsed, you probably missed some other small fixes I made (note that I had several edits on the article). Note, for example, that a semicolon now once again improperly follows a ref superscript, which was the original reason for my going in and editing the article. Jérôme Kerviel

Sorry, I suppose the "readability" is in the eye of the beholder. While the cite is cleaner with structured formats and padding, the readability of the surrounding text it's citing becomes less so, especially with the extra page scrolling involved. But I'll make do. Professor marginalia (talk) 17:27, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Dgies, after having reverted at least three different editors on this issue without any clear policy basis for doing so, you might want to read Wikipedia:Ownership of articles, which basically says that if you don't want to have your contributions edited mercilessly by others, Wikipedia might not be where you Find Your Grail. You have to be a bit of a Taoist about articles on Wikipedia. If you find a bunch of other people making the same change, you might want to consider that they might be right, and you might be not, and just let it go. Please regenerate gnuplot image

I've updated the dataset and gnuplot ranges for http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:SDA_Membership.svg. Would you please regenerate the image? Sdenny123 (talk) 05:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Done. Next time you can do it yourself: just install gnuplot, save the source data to a text file, and paste in the commands. —dgiestc 17:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

This should be an interesting tool, I wasn't even aware of the discussion regarding non-admins. It certainly is handy - I'll do my best with it! CredoFromStart talk 17:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Admin Coaching Re-confirmation

Hello, previously you expressed interest in participating in the Wikipedia:Admin coaching project. We are currently conducting a reconfirmation drive to give coaches the opportunity to update their information and capacity to participate in the project. Please visit Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Status to update your status. Also, please remember to update your capacity (5th table variable) in the form of a fraction (eg. 2/3 means you are currently coaching 2 students, and could accept 1 more student). Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fifteencountsofarson.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Fifteencountsofarson.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 12:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
