[edit] Devil's advocate

Does this term originate from the phrase "Devil's advocate"? 66.93.12.67 15:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

No, that term comes from the fact that whenever the Catholic church wished to canonise a saint, they would appoint an advocate in the proceedings to speak against the canonisation, on behalf of the devil, and therefore devil's advocate. Dermo345
