An explanation of my delete of the "Rhineland campaign". The way the para was written it appeared to indicate that the Franco-Italian border defense WAS the Rhineland campaign. ("in what is called the R.C.") That statement was not true and was misleading. The link indicates where and when the Rhineland campaign took place. However for awarding of campaign streamers and campaign service ribbons, the deployment of the 1st Airborne Task Force was listed in this campaign by the U.S. Army, a side-show at best. I left it in the lists of campaign service because technically, the list is correct.--Buckboard 21:35, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

See http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/news/story.html?id=20ee9839-0698-4db3-b03f-ba109b54e2a2&k=98001 for a Canada Depatartment of National Defense decision to redact references to the Devil's Brigade from information released under the Canada Access to Information Act relating to JTF2. The redaction included references to the historical relationship between the two units, including the name of the SSF, and references to the SSF's operations. The justification was that 'the words Special Service Force would be injurious to the conduct of international affairs, the defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada or the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities. In addition, the name of the First Special Service Force and the locations where it fought were censored because such details are considered part of advice provided to government.'

This may not be relevant to the entry on the Devil's Brigade directly, but is certiainly relevant to information contained in the article, which has now been deemed a threat to national security.

I wrote my master's thesis on the First Special Servuce Force at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. My basis was interviewing surviving American and Canadian Soldiers from northern Idaho and Helena, Montana. By the way, there is a lovely memorial to the FSSF in Helena. It lists the names of all soldiers who served in the FSSF. The title above is that which members of the FSSF slapped on the necks of those enemy that they had killed - usually with a slice from their special knife. It literally translates to "The Worst is Yet to Come" and was the idea of General Frederick to scare the wits out of the enemy. 205.166.241.19 (talk) 19:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Catherine C.
