[edit] Inter-county
Prendergast made his senior championship debut for Waterford in 2003 at a time when the county's hurling fortunes were on the way up. The following year he won his first Munster medal following a defeat of Cork in, what has been described as, the greatest Munster final of all-time. Unfortunately, Waterford were later defeated in the All-Ireland semi-final. The following two years brought little success for Prendergast and Waterford. In 2005 and 2006 they reached the All-Ireland knock-out series, however, they were beaten on both occasions by old rivals Cork. In 2007 Prendergast won a National Hurling League medal following a victory over Kilkenny in the final. It was Waterford's first national title since 1963. He later collected a second Munster title following a win over surprise finalists Limerick.
