There have been a couple of Dead Air Daves in the Radio business. One worked at KRZQ, Reno, in the early to mid 90's. Another, outlined above, acquired the name later. But, it is considered that the original Dead Air Dave is nether the one who gained notoriety punching the dump button for Howard Stern, nor the one in Reno. The real Dead Air Dave is best known for his time on KEDJ/The Edge in Phoenix. Before Phoenix, Dead AIr Dave started his Radio career in 1981 on the air at KFSR, in Fresno, California. He caught the ear of the historic Central California Rock station, KKDJ. This happened when he won the the public "best Of" pole in the Valley Music News as Fresno's Favorite Personalty. Then PD of KKDJ, Don Fischer, hired Dave as a weekender, In the subsequent eight years he held positions at KKDj that included, night time air personality, Production Director, Promotions coordinator, and part of the infamous Dean and Don's Breakfast Club. In 1992 Willobee became PD of KKDj and flipped it to become Jacobs Media's first FM flagship for their, then new, The Edge format. By 1993 Willobee had moved to Phoenix the start another Edge format for Jacobs. He recruited Dead Air Dave and plucked him from California. While Dave, again, permeated the station as Production Director, evening air personality, morning show host with partner Jayn Sayd, (currently at Alice Radio in San Francisco), and Assistant Program Director, he is most popularly remembered for his afternoon drive show with side-kick Feltcher. There was a short break from The Edge when he was afternoon drive host and APD/MD for Byron Kennedy at KPTY. He left The Edge and Phoenix in 2004 to program KHWD in Sacramento for CBS Radio. Since 2000 he has also been Entertainment correspondent, and Film critic, for News/Talk KTAR in Phoenix. He continues to fill this role. In addition, Dead Air Dave is currently working on the other side of the Radio/Records industry as a Specialty agent for U.N.C.L.E. Promotion. U.N.C.L.E. is an independent record promotion company that can be reached at www.unclepromo.com.
