[edit] Publishers Bindings copyvio

Thanks...never noticed that the db-repost wasn't for speedied things. However, given that the article again appears to be the same as it was the last two (!) times it was speedied as copyvio, can it be simply speedied again on those same merits? DMacks 22:20, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the headsup. I don't think WP:SALTing it is the right thing, because it's okay with me if someone wants to try writing a non-copyvio version of it. (I'm not certain that it would meet our notability standards, but I'm not certain it wouldn't.) I'll be around off and on tonight, but I'll try to keep an eye on it. Cheers, FreplySpang 22:57, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey there. I am posting this comment to request your views on my editorial review. I value your view and your comment would be appreciated. Oh, thanks. I've lost quite a few of my responses because I didn't tag the pages to watch early on. I do better now, but still not 100%. KP Botany 22:56, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your RfA:

I thought you deserved adminship. Please accept my nomination, as I'm sure you will pass with flying colours. You're a good editor Davey, & you'll make a great admin... :) Spawn Man 02:11, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm writing up a co-nom now. No way I'm not getting a say in this one :) riana_dzasta 05:37, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
When are ya gonna accept? The anticipation is killing me man!! Spawn Man 07:33, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
No problemo matey potatey. I just wish I was good enough for people so that I succeeded my first RfA. In anycase, this month has been the best since I started, with nearing 1000 edits. Despite my bad fortune at the beginning I've turned it around. Maybe my good luck will rub off on you now! :) Spawn Man 07:50, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
(EC) Done. It took me 2 hours?! Well, I better not have done a crappy job, then, what a waste of time that would be :) riana_dzasta 07:52, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
It's okay I guess.... ;) No seriously, that is about as comprehensive as you'll get from what I've seen of DD. Good job... Spawn Man 07:56, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey. Just to let you know I've posted a comment at /Editor review concerning User:Daveydweeb/Editor review and I was wondering if you could post a small reply to it. Cheers and regards, Anthonycfc (talk • email) 02:24, Friday 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citizendium article

Just wanted to give you a heads-up that I included a report on your Wikipedia Weekly comments about Citizendium in the CZ article. I tried to quote you accurately and fairly. I must caution that Larry Sanger has questioned my fairness on the article's talk page, so I tried to be as scrupulously even-handed as possible. Without public access to the pilot wiki, I have to rely on reports from editors like you who do have access. Thanks! Casey Abell 17:08, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind reply, David. I have corroborated some of your comments - about the growing volume of CZ users and edits, for instance - with quotes from Larry in the article. I regularly read the CZ blog, mailing list and forums, and I'll look for any more published corroboration. And yes, I do consider you a reliable source, especially because your remarks about CZ seemed balanced and well-considered. Thanks again. Casey Abell 23:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Oh, the humanity!

I had my doubts about accepting a nomination for a second RfA, but even I couldn't have predicted the stir it caused as it drifted to the ground in flames! Still, it was as educational as ever. Thanks for your input; it will be on my mind as I continue to edit Wikipedia, and perhaps I will have earned your support if another nomination comes around. [edit] Re: Interview for Wikipedia Weekly?

Unfortunately, I am micless, so I will have to decline your offer. I hope all goes well. One thing to remember - regardless of who you have talking about both "sides", people only represent their own viewpoints, and not the viewpoints of an entire group. -- Natalya 04:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I apologize for the lateness of this reply, but unfortunately I will not be able to attend either, due to a variety of factors including quite a busy schedule IRL. However, I am honored that you would invite me, and under normal circumstances and perhaps a different topic I would definitely consider being on the show. I hope it goes great, and let me know if there's anything I can do for you in the future, podcast-wise or other-wise. Cheers, EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 16:12, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding "Cheap Shit" article

What the hell, man? Why do you keep deleting my article? Cheap Shit is a prevalent concept in the United States. I don't know about the other colonies, but regardless, just because you aren't aware of something or it doesn't seem important to you doesn't make it "nonsense". Redreadersdigest 22:13, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

You've never give me any reason that "Cheap Shit" is "nonsense", you just made that claim without supporting it. Isn't wikipedia supposed to be about having enough free speech that you can create relevant articles about anything?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Redreadersdigest (talkcontribs)

How about we take this arguement to the next level? Yeah, that's right, bitch. I'm talking about e-mail. Redreadersdigest 00:27, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Or, you could take it to deletion review. Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 00:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Casey Dick

Thanks for alerting me about the possible deletion. I have voiced my opinion and all I think needs to happen is more information and it can be a solid article. Fortyniners9999 01:13, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Db1944

Good evening (GMT); I am currently going on a wikibreak for health reasons and as such I have been forced to neglect my adopted user, Db1944. Although for the duration of my wikibreak David will be finding a co-adopter to guide him in my absence, I have prior dealings with you and I trust you as a user. Therefore, I would like to ask you not to co-adopt User:Db1944 but to simply provide a helping hand in the absence of myself. If you choose to decline, I would have no problem. However if you wish to assist David during my wikibreak it would be very much appreciated.

Cheers and regards, Anthonycfc (talkemail) 19:06, Wednesday, December 13, 2006 (GMT)

Heya! Anthony asked me to fill in a little for him while he's away, and I'm happy to help out. I'm not an especially active editor, but if you have any questions please feel free to leave them at my talkpage, or email me using the link on my userpage. :) Cheerio! Thanks, that’s very kind of you. I’m currently working on several projects and so fat they’ve been going smoothly, but if I’d need some information it’s nice to know you’re available. Good day (as Anthony says – GMT+2) Db1944 05:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
I’m a fairly independent guy, so I do most of my edits on my own. Sometimes I get stuck (mainly on technical stuff or Wikipedian policies) and then I ask Anthony. He started up a talk page especially assigned for our discussions – here. I also asked him to review an article I wrote, but unfortunately he didn’t get around to it. I’m very low maintenance… :) Db1944 14:15, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

Good evening (GMT time); you may remember (on second thoughts probably not :) back when I first joined Wikipedia (Feb 06) that you where one of the first to welcome me. Since then, I have valued your opinion greatly and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to ask your completely honest opinion: do you think I am ready for adminship?

I would appreciate honesty a million times more than just saying yes, so please do take time to think about it. Your opinion is appreciated.

Cheers and regards,
Anthonycfc (talkemailtools) 16:43, Thursday December 28, 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I never realised - it's 4:50 pm in Scotland :) Thanks for the reply -- Anthony. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anthony cfc (talkcontribs) 16:49, 28 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Esperanza Userbox

Good afternoon (GMT time); I took the liberty of removing the Esperanza userbox from User:Daveydweeb/userboxen - it was no longer a userbox but a string of red text.

This is because all pages and templates assossiated with Esperanza are being deleted per Esperanza's MfD nomination, which finished with the community's concensus being delete.

In summary: Esperanza has been deleted, and so has all its userboxes.

I hope you don't mind me removing the red link.

Cheers,
Anthonycfc 13:24, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Would you like to see Esperanza return. Geo. 20:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Me? Not really. Its structure was, frankly, a joke -- the only way I'd be happy to see EA return would be after a [i]massive[/i] overhaul that decentralised its leadership and cut all of the bureaucracy from its previous incarnation. As far as I can see, this is as close as we'll get. Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 21:41, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Administratorship

Hope you enjoyed the coast; thanks for your concern over my adminship - however, I have postponed my RfA pending my participation in the Admin Coaching program. I'm not desperate for adminship - it would just save all those times I've turned up at AIV requesting such-and-such be blocked. Anyway, thanks for your help!

By the way, check out my talk page at the bottom for a really smart (if I do say so myself :) answer regarding "do you want to see Esperanza return" question :) I'll leave it a surprise.

Good morning (GMT time), for the last time.

I am leaving the project, in favour of a more worthwhile cause; may I take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance over the past 11 months. It has been an honour conversing with you, and I wish you all the best.

[edit] Help over at CAT:CSD

Hi, and congrats on your promotion! Per this discussion, I'm dropping a friendly note to some of the recently-promoted admins requesting help with speedy deletions. I am not an administrator, so if you don't feel comfortable diving into deletions - or if you need more info - please don't come to me, but I'm sure that Cyde Weys would be happy to guide you if you want to help. Any help is great, but I'm sure that Cyde and others would deeply appreciate it if you could put the page on your watchlist and do a bit of work there on a regular basis? Maybe weekly? Thanks in advance! Oh and if you're already working away on CSD please disregard this message; it's not meant as a slight against any hard work you're already doing. Cheers! Hey buddy, where've ya been? My talk page is mighty quiet without you... :) riana_dzasta 13:56, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh-ho, no jokes about banned users, I appear to be learning my lesson on that one... :) *sigh* As for the Sanger situation - wow. I haven't been contributing to CZ, but I've been keeping up with the mailing list, and for a project that's less than a year old, they sure seem to do a lot of navel-gazing. Bah, stay here, people are far more reasonable. riana_dzasta 03:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh, that sucks! I have a friend who has 2 classes right after each other which are on opposite sides of the city... dodgy timetables. I'm probably going to start enrolment today/tomorrow, but I have to go to uni first, seeing as I can't seem to find my major topics on my options list. Hmmmm. Hey, thanks for the question. The music for episode 19 is "Daydream", a demonstration song packaged with Apple's Garageband, the editing software we use to create the podcast. Apple actively encourages the use of the loops and tracks included with the software in users' productions, and (as far as I can tell) asserts no ownership over them. -- Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 02:58, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the response, However given the climate around the use of non self-created sound recordings at the moment, you would do well to get an "explict" license directly from Apple asserting what you've stated above, and that they have no objection to the 'free' use of the tracks.

Although not strictly needed, I would make the recommendation to give music credits and "a used under <blah> terms" for any future music clips you use, or write your own :-)

"Daydream" as I understand it isn't the only track used... ShakespeareFan00 07:55, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Target locked, line baited, net spread...

Hey there, as you may already have gathered from the theme, I am currently on a headhunt of sort! I found you through User:Phaedriel/Soundtrack of Wikipedians, and couldn't help noticing that from your taste in music and from a few of your contributions, you appear to be a pretty strong editor with an interest in electronic music. I was therefore wondering whether you might be interested in joining WikiProject Electronic Music, to which I'm sure you would be a great asset, and which is in need of a few more active editors and a bit of revival! If you're interested then please go ahead and add your name to the participants list, and if not, keep up the good work, and I shall see you around! Have a nice day, - Zeibura S. [edit] Userpage repair

Hey, as you seem to be a very experienced editor with an awesome userpage, I was just wondering if you could help me with a small problem. I have just finished designing User:Tewfik and think it's the best thing I've ever designed on here, but still had a small request to fulfill. The show/hide boxes on the page are, by default, closed. The user I designed if for was wondering whether I may be able to make them open by default. I was hoping you couldf help me here, even if it was by saying there was nothing more to do. Thanks, †Ðanieltiger45† Talk to meas 13:03, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Davey, I was directed to you by Danieltiger45, who was fixing up my userpage. I was hoping that you might be able to make the cells expand by default, and only collapse on request, as well as perhaps separating the babel and FA/GA/DYK boxes into two distinct columns. If you have any other suggestions for improvement, I'd love to hear. Cheers, TewfikTalk 06:50, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Davey,
I'd love if you could take a look. Essentially, I would like if cells would be initially expanded, as well as perhaps seeing if you cant make the boxes inside them a bit ordered (the UBXs and such). Many thanks, TewfikTalk 23:42, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to hear about the problems, and thank you again for helping me. Just let me know when you're ready, TewfikTalk 09:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Openforbusiness2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Openforbusiness2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:39, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NPA story

Hello,

This may be somewhat foggy in your mind - but I wondered if you could fill me in on the Slashdot attention surrounding the furor of the NPA article which you blogged about late last year? Since that time myself, and other proponents have developed this theory and proliferated it somewhat with a website now located at [npatheory.com] - basically it is surprising that this Slashdot attention was overlooked. So if any sentiment is there on Slashdot, then some insight as to public receptivity could be gained. If the story was more about the...somewhat oligarchic situation which I think you will agree stands to this day here on Wikipedia then please disregard this message. As a reminder do view this page. Thanks. -- D-Katana 04:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Weekly episode numbers!?

Hi Daveydweeb,

I noticed you were involved with Wikimania and the audio broadcasts.
I've been trying to update the Wikipedia Weekly Episode List. I used information from the Audio list and the Wikimania Episode.

  1. I'm thinking Episode 24 is the Ward Cunningham Interview and Episode 25 is the Evan Prodromou interview; is that correct?
  2. And I can't find an Episode 27 anywhere!?
  3. Along with that, there seems to be an orphan Episode21 unrelated to the Wikimania Tomorrow! episode 21.

Hope you can help, though I noticed from your contributions that you haven't been here much lately...

Regards, JohnI 19:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:AfD in 4 steps

A tag has been placed on Template:AfD in 4 steps requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

[edit] BitBoys Oy

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article BitBoys Oy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of BitBoys Oy.

If I've overlooked something, please let me know and I'll get right on to it. Many thanks! Gazimoff (talk) 11:53, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

The GraalOnline article that was deleted due to WP:WEB, NPOV, and other issues noted in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/GraalOnline has been secretly reposted at http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graal_Online , with little to no changes except for the language translation...
