Dr. David Hayward is a fictional character from the ABC daytime drama All My Children, as portrayed by Vincent Irizarry since November 27, 1997 to March 2, 1998, then July 8, 1998 to November 28, 2006.
The character has been a top television villain for years.[1][2] His criminal actions have been alluded to by authors, as well as recognized by their own fictional characters,[3] as David evolves but always remains the force that keeps heroes and heroines staggering.

[edit] Brief character history
Dr. David Hayward first makes his All My Children debut in late 1997 to reclaim his ex-lover, Dr. Allie Doyle. Allie is dating Dr. Jake Martin at the time. When Allie rejects him, David tries to get Jake out of the way. He frames Jake at the hospital by giving stroke patient Adam Chandler the wrong medication. David arrives "just in time" to play hero, which provides him with enough ammunition to get Jake suspended.
David will remain a common enemy of the Martin family throughout the next several years, constantly at war with Jake and his father, Joe Martin. But it is his obsession with Dixie Cooney Martin, Jake's sister in-law, that is the fuel for his greatest rival: Tad Martin. It is rumored that David and Dixie had a romantic relationship while she was in Switzerland and that while she was there, he helped her through her recovery.
David later exudes hatred for Zach Slater. Some Pine Valley residents, such as Tad Martin and Jamie Martin, think that maybe David has come back to Pine Valley to kill Simone Torres, Erin Lavery, and Danielle Frye, as there is a serial killer by the name of the Satin Slayer on the loose, whose identity is yet to be discovered. However, Danielle survives, and some time after David leaves Pine Valley, Alexander Cambias, Sr. is revealed to be the serial killer.

- Right arm was sliced open after Leslie Coulson stabbed him with a letter opener. (February 2001)
- Broken right hand, injured when he punched a wall in jail April 13, 2001
- Fell into a coma after Leslie Coulson injected pain medicine into his IV April 16, 2001
- Knocked out and scheduled for open heart sergery by Janet Dillion (November 2005)
