Dastakert (Armenian: Դաստակերտ) is a town in the Syunik province (marz) of Armenia. Dastakert has been a town since 1951. The town is situated on the foot of the mountain Airy, at the root of the river Dastakert. Dastakert was first mentioned in 12-13th centuries.
The name Dastakert is a Persian loanword into Armenian (from Persian دستگرد Dastgerd). It means "made by hand, handiwork, a term originally designating a royal or seigneurial estate.[1]
