[edit] Institut Jean Nicod
1) Welcome. For more information on categories, refer to Category, Categorization, and Categorisation FAQ. Of course, one page can belong to many categories, but the more it belongs to the less meaningful each one is. Karol 17:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- ok thanks!
2) I know that this institute is interdisciplinary and covers a very wide range of topics. That is not a reason, however, to place it in Category:Philosophy. There is a certain category hierarchy, and the top-level Category:Philosophy should contain pages directly related to or about philosophy. Take a look what kind of pages are there - mostly about philosophy in general and "meta" pages. The category was recently depopulated, after having ca. 500 pages, which made it incomprehensible. If each topic related to philosophy were to be placed there, we would be back to the same situation. That is why I removed those categories, and why I will insist on removing them again. Karol 17:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- I see, I'll try to find something more specific (basically all philosophers at IJN work in the field of philosophy of mind or language]]).
3) Á propos the examples. MIT_AI_Lab was categorized in Category:Artificial intelligence due to the lack of a more specific category. I now created Category:Artificial intelligence laboratories to illustrate the point, and therefore it can be recategorized. In any case, Artificial intelligence as a category is alot further down the hierarchy than philosophy and has a norrower subject field, and thus has a lower propensity to grow. Due to this, a wider variety of page types can be left there. The same argumentation applies, to a lesser degree, to Category:Cognitive science. Karol 17:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
4) Why is Category:Education in Paris not OK for this page? Karol 17:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the institute is mainly a research lab. It hosts master students, graduate students and postdocs but doesn't deliver any degree.
5) Consider placing the page in Category:Interdisciplinary fields or one of its subcategories. Also consider making a new category, for instace Category:Interdisciplinary research isntitutes. Karol 17:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Or maybe a category for research institutes in cognitive science, which sounds much more specific.
Thanks for your feedback,

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Ehess.jpg
|
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Ehess.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- Longhair 10:05, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of mind mapping software
Hi. I am not sure the source formatting will be decided any time soon on that page. In the meantime I added back a wiki-link you added a few days ago. The one that wasn't duplicating other wikilinks in that section: MySQL. I am sorry for any hassles I caused by my removing the wikilinks you added. Feel free to edit the page. --Timeshifter 19:17, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Barbican-logo.gif
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Barbican-logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
- Added reference to the source of the logo (and copyright owner), thanks --DarTar 14:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:XeTeX logo.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:XeTeX logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
- Added explanation and fair use rationale --DarTar 17:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] LaTeX
- (from user talk:jacobolus)
Hi, I'm just very curious to know which program you used for the SVG version of LaTeX output.-PhDP (talk) 19:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- Same here, I'm on Mac OS and I'm struggling to find a good (possibly opensource) solution to convert PDF/EPS to SVG. --DarTar 12:22, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
-
- Oh, sorry. I left the following at PhDP's talk page:
- I actually used pdflatex to make a pdf, and then used Adobe Illustrator to turn characters into outlines. This is undoubtedly possible with apps like Inkscape, etc., which are free, but I have more experience with Illustrator. :) --jacobolus (t) 22:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image source problem with Image:Smithfield market map.png
Thanks for making a map of Smithfield market. It looks like there is aerial photograph in the background. I assume that this is from a copyrighted source, meaning it can't be used on Wikipedia. You might want to take a look at OpenStreetMap for a map released under a free license. Edward 23:28, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Background removed, thanks. --DarTar 13:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your GA nomination of Smithfield, London
The article Smithfield, London you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold.
It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Smithfield, London for things needed to be addressed. The main issues are that the lead section needs to be expanded, and some more references need to be added as addressed in the notes I left. It's very close, but based on the work you've put into the article recently, I'm sure you'll be able to finish it up. Good luck! Hersfold (t/a/c) 08:49, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
