Hi! I hereby offer to adopt you under Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user. I've already adopted 3 other people. I'm not "into" sports, but I'm into anti-poverty, Latin and Wikipediholism. :-) Let me know if you accept. I like getting talk page messages, so feel free to ask me questions at any time on my talk page. --Coppertwig (talk) 18:14, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello
I found your hidden subpage and awarded myself with the award I found there, but a big ugly warning-triangle appeared instead of the image :( could you fix this? Thanks, ☺ Spiby ☻ 10:30, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] You are invited!
| New York City Meetup
|
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
You're also invited to subscribe to the public Wikimedia New York City mailing list, which is a great way to receive timely updates.
This has been an automated delivery because you were on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 02:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Just saying hello
Hi! How are things? Let me know if you have any questions, or if you'd like me to look over something you've done or anything. --Coppertwig (talk) 20:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Things are fine, and thank you very much for asking. I was wondering if you could show me how to make userboxes from scratch. Thanks! Daniel.M (talk) 14:47, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sure! I'll tell you how I did mine. For example, my userbox User:Coppertwig/Userboxes/hackyglot is created more-or-less from scratch.
- Create a file in your userspace. It doesn't have to have the word "Userboxes" in it, but it's a convenient way to organize your files if it does. Any file with name beginning "User:Dantheu2man/" is in your userspace, which just means that unless you do something really out of line like an ad for a product, a copyright violation etc., that other people will generally leave it alone. So you could create a file, for example, with name "User:Dantheu2man/Userboxes/Example". You can then put whatever you want in there, but since you want a userbox, you probably want stuff to draw a coloured rectangle etc. OK, so you can choose some other userbox you like and copy the contents. Suppose you copy from my User:Coppertwig/Userboxes/hackyglot. Go there, click "edit this page" (but don't actually change my page!), use your mouse to copy the entire contents of the edit box, then go to your newly created page and paste the contents in.
- Then you can edit it to look like what you want it to look like. You can change the words to say something different. You can change the colours. "#000" is black. The colour is in RGB format; that means the first number (from 0 to f in hexadecimal) is the amount of red, the second number is the amount of green, and the third is the amount of blue. #fff means maximum light rays in all three colours, which gives you white. #f00 gives you red, for example. #039 is a dark, slightly greenish blue; #03f would be a lighter blue I guess, and #88f would give you light blue, etc. I think border-c is the colour of the border; id-c is the colour of the background of the square on the left; id-fc (f for foreground, I guess) is the colour of the lettering at the left; info-c is the colour of the background of the rectangle on the right; and info-fc is the colouring of the lettering. You can experiment to see if I have that right or which variable controls what. Note that my userbox is using the template "Userbox" (the first thing it says after the two opening curly brackets at the top), so you can go to Template:Userbox for more information on how to use that if you like.
- Anyway, you can play around with it until you have something you like the look of, then add it to your userpage with {{User:Dantheu2man/Userboxes/Example}}.
- Have fun! Let me know if you run into any difficulties or would like to know anything else! --Coppertwig (talk) 23:29, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- I looked at the format and thought it was wonderful, but I need to know how to put pictures into the userbox. Daniel.M (talk) 19:30, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Do you mean one picture at the top of all the userboxes the way I have it, or a little picture inside one of the specific little userboxes? I put a picture at the top of my userboxes like this: [[Image:Pinus contorta latifolia branch.jpg|thumb|240px|Pinus contorta latifolia ''(Lodgepole Pine)'' twig]]. I made it 240px (240 pixels) so it would be the right size to fit in with the userboxes. Actually, it doesn't have to be at the top: it can be between any of the userboxes or at the bottom. If you want to put a picture right in the userbox: I would try making the image very small (e.g. 10px or 20px or something??) and putting the image display stuff (like what I just mentioned) where the text goes in the userbox. Or, find someone with pictures in their userbox and try to copy how they did it. Let me know if that's what you want to do and I'll try to help more. --Coppertwig (talk) 22:05, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting my Page
Why didn't you consult me before redirecting Like a Song? Daniel.M (talk) 21:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- The article for "Like a Song..." has been deleted twice previously, making it a candidate for WP:CSD. The article was composed of just three sentences, some of it POV, and none of it sourced. I've searched through several references, including the internet, "U2 by U2", "U2 Propaganda", and "U2 - Into the Heart: The Story Behind Every Song", but could find no more information to include into the article. As I am currently revamping the War page in an effort to get it to GA, I decided to be bold and merge those three sentences into the War article. A merge is not a deletion. In a merge, you are condensing the information on the page and transferring it to another article. In a deletion, the information is removed entirely.
- Finally, nobody owns Wikipedia articles. Yes, it is generally a good idea to consult other editors who have contributed to a page/Wikiproject before doing any major editing to page, but that isn't necessary for three sentences. Not every song needs to have it's own article. Songs like "Grace", "Drowning Man", "Silver and Gold", "Wild Honey", and yes, "Like A Song..." just don't have enough real-world information to warrant their own articles. I am aware that some of the songs I have listed do have their own articles, but they should not and I do plan to merge them before long after longer discussion within the U2 WikiProject. MelicansMatkin (talk) 22:03, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thank you for explaining to me. Daniel.M (talk) 19:36, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see deletions of "Like a Song" in the deletion log. Maybe the name was slightly different before? Anyway, if it was previously deleted via speedy-delete, that would not make it eligible for deletion under CSD G4. Only if it had been deleted via a deletion discussion. Redirecting it was still probably a good idea, though. --Coppertwig (talk) 01:08, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

The moves
A tag has been placed on The moves, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.
If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Metropolitan90 (talk) 23:25, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
