Dance Dance Revolution Universe is the thirteenth home version of Dance Dance Revolution released in the United States. It was released by Konami on February 27, 2007, for the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console - the first DDR game on a next-generation console. About 65 songs are available in total in this version. The game was announced in a press release by Konami on May 9, 2006, and unveiled at the E³ expo in Los Angeles that same day. As with the Ultramix series for the original Xbox, Universe makes extensive use of Xbox Live, including online play, player ranking, and downloadable song packs via purchase with Microsoft Points. This game also features music from Chris Brown, Verbalicious, Cascada, Jamiroquai, New Order, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, The Sugarhill Gang, Depeche Mode, and others.
DDR Universe is among the first Xbox 360 titles that takes advantage of a Fall 2006 firmware update that adds 1080p display capability to the console. The game can also display in 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i.
Of note, Universe is the first DDR game to include winning songs from a new annual contest held by BroadJam in partnership with Konami. The winning songs included There's a Rhythm, GO! (Mahalo Mix), Grandolin, and Race Against Time.

The main criticism of Dance Dance Revolution Universe is its Quest Mode, which has been a part of the franchise since Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX 3. The problems arise with the Quest Mode being the only way for players to unlock the songs in the game, which is a stark contrast from other games in the series where songs were unlocked by either buying the songs through a point system or by normal gameplay in the Arcade Mode. Another problem arises is the high level of difficulty of the computer A.I. and the fact that the mode is more catered towards advanced players of the game, which makes the mode very frustrating for novice players.
In order to actually "win" each song routine in Quest Mode, the player must fill a dance meter. The problem is that some songs don't have enough steps to fill the meter so the player must use multiple songs to actually accomplish this goal. The manual and the in-game menu does not explain this clearly. It is possible to dance perfectly and still "fail" a song.
The Quest Mode is also made difficult by the Dance Competitions the player must endure. Unless the player steps "perfectly," the dance meter adds to itself, causing the competition to last longer than necessary as there is no overall time limit.
As well, in Quest Mode, when the player travels to the state of New York, the game incorrectly places Albany in the geographical location of New York City. The icon for Albany also incorrectly displays the Statue of Liberty.
Another problem is seen through the Achievements screen of the game, which states that the song PARANOIA EVOLUTION can be unlocked by playing through the Challenge Mode in the game when, in reality, it is unlocked by more gameplay in Quest Mode. Another error is that the word "championship" is misspelt as "chamionship" on the Achievements screen.
