[edit] Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in North London, the Boundary Commission for England have created a new constituency of Dagenham and Rainham.

[edit] History

Dagenham has been Labour since World War II and was considered a safe seat. But recenty demographic changes and a fear that foreigners are jumping the queue has led to a decline in Labour support. The BNP is very active in this area and it's support has been steadily rising. Dagenham was until very recently a homogenous white working class area. But, all unofficial reports suggest that this has declined due to immigration. The number of Africans has radically increased. Many being given money to move out of Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest. Locals are angered at what they see as the indigenous white working class being pushed aside. It is home to a declining skilled manual industry such as the Ford Motor Company works, which downscaled production in 2001.

The Nationalist British National Party has enjoyed electoral success due to widespread concerns over mass immigration, achieving nearly 10% of the vote in the 2005 General Election and in the 2006 local elections returned 12 councillors to Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council.
