[edit] ITV Wales headquarters
The district also has the headquarters for ITV Wales television and radio in Wales, boasting a 750 feet high mast, the Wenvoe Transmitter which towers above the area. The television centre includes full transmission facilities, production offices (including ITV Wales' central newsroom) and two television studios, the larger "Studio One" measuring 7,500 square ft. This facility is large enough to accommodate major television productions and has been used to produce programmes broadcast nationally on the ITV network. Studio 1 was recently used as a temporary home for the first modern series of Doctor Who, produced by BBC Wales.
HTV originally moved into the site in the 1980s, their previous home being the former TWW building in Pontcanna. The role of the site was downgraded in 2004, when parent company Carlton Communications merged with Granada Television, with the operation rebranded as ITV Wales, although they are still legally known as HTV Cymru/Wales[citation needed]
The studios handled the transmission of both HTV and Carlton Westcountry until 2002 when the department moved to London.
Transmission of ITV Wales is now controlled fully from London with the word "Wales" superimposed onto the idents on the live feed.
