Lana Earl also known as Lana E. was the first singer for the group, Tania Evans replaced her in 1993, thus being featured on all of the group's most well-known hits. Other members of the act included composer/guitarist Juergen "Nosie" Katzmann and keyboardist Peter Zweier.

[edit] Biography
The idea for the group started on the dance floor of the discotheque Dorian Gray where Torsten Fenslau worked as a DJ. The group was founded in 1989 by accident, when Der Erdbeermund became a big hit in Europe.
Their biggest hit "Mr Vain" topped the German and UK charts in 1993 and was one of the biggest hits across Europe that year, reaching #1 in the Irish Singles Chart (it also hit #1 on the Australian ARIA chart and the UK Official Single Chart in 1993, and #17 on the U.S. Hot 100 the following year). Other hits include "Anything", "Got To Get It" (both Top 10 hits in Australia) and "World In Your Hands".
In 1993, Torsten was killed tragically in a car accident, and his brother Frank took over production of the group, with Katie-Jayne Teal assuming the role of chief engineer.
Their third album "Inside Out" was another international hit in 1995 with a Top 10-Charthit in Germany "Inside Out" and three more chart breakers like "Crying In The Rain" and "Take Me Away".
In 1997, Frank decided to have the group go in a different direction and replaced Tania with Kim Sanders. Jay Supreme actually stayed with the group for a short time after Tania's departure. Frank had said on a now defunct message board on the group's official website, that the tracks from Metamorphosis were originally intended to have Jay rapping on them as usual, when a short time into the recording process he also decided to leave the group. There are some unreleased versions with Jay's vocals according to Frank.
In 1998 the project returned a bit less successfully with Kim Sanders, who also was the lead singer of Loft's "Hold On" and "Impossible" by Captain Hollywood Project. The singles like "Pay No Mind" were huge radio hits in Germany and managed to climb into the Top 30 of the charts.
Another change in lead singers gained the most recent member of Culture Beat, Jacky Sangster. Her first single release with Culture Beat was a thought provoking song titled "Insanity". The single did find some success much none more than with the underground sub-culture in Electronica/Dance music. A re-recorded version of their most famous song titled, "Mr. Vain Recall" featuring Jacky on lead vocals was a top 10 hit in Germany in 2003. A greatest hits package was released, and the act is now said to be recording new material with the new singer. Culture Beat didn't release another hit, the planned single "Can't Go On Like This (No No)" was dropped by the label in 2004. Still, before the single was dropped, it became a Top 20 pop chart hit in the German dance charts. Many long time Culture Beat fans and Eurodance, Hi-NRG and House fans around the world are patiently awaiting their fifth album.
Culture Beat sold over ten million albums and singles worldwide [1]
