CSN Northwest is a member of the Comcast SportsNet network of regional sports networks that covers local sports teams throughout the Northwest United States.
CSN Northwest is the newest addition to Comcast SportsNet. The channel launched on November 1, 2007, at 5 p.m. local time. The Portland Trail Blazers are the main attraction, but the channel will cover other Northwest sports including college and high school sports.

[edit] Portland Trail Blazers
After the Trail Blazers dismantled their pay-per-view network BlazerVision in 2001, the team was on FSN Northwest through the 2006-07 season, after which FSN was unwilling to renew their contract. Sources say the Trail Blazers were asking for too much money after finishing with one of the league's worst records. CSN Northwest promptly stepped in to replace FSN.
During its launch season, CSN Northwest was to carry at least 55 regular season Trail Blazers games. When combined with the Trail Blazers' over-the-air coverage, 81 regular season Trail Blazers games would be on TV, the most in the team's history. The new network was to air 28 of the 36 home games in HD.[1]
[edit] University of Oregon Ducks
The UO Ducks' sports broadcasting network, the Oregon Sports Network, was looking for more air time and availability. When CSN/NW came out, the OSN struck a contract for CSN to air many of the university's football and basketball games that were not scheduled to be aired nationally or on FSN. Some coaches shows produced by KEZI and OSN also air on CSN.
[edit] Programs
Other programming includes expanded pre-game and post-game Trail Blazers analysis, selected pre-season and playoff games, a season preview, and specials focused on the NBA draft, the All-Star Game, and the playoffs. CSN Northwest also covers a variety of other sports relevant to fans in the region and produces a daily morning news show with the latest highlights, updates and stats. The network will provide fans with multimedia sports content online and through video on demand.[2]
The station will be locally run out of an office in the Portland area and will also have a studio in the Rose Garden Arena to provide up to date coverage of the Blazers.
CSN carries NHL games, including 25 Vancouver Canucks games. Using relationships with other Comcast-owned channels, CSN Northwest also broadcasts 35 other games from around the league. Additionally, the channel offers select Portland Winter Hawks home games from the WHL.
[edit] Carriage
Currently, only Comcast, Verizon FiOS, Scio Cablevision and Ashland Home Net are carrying the new network. Neither DirecTV nor Dish Network has yet signed on to carry this channel, despite both carrying all other Comcast channels (except Philadelphia, which is distributed by land line). Rumors are rampant on the internet about the cost and carriage demands Comcast has placed on the satellite providers, although nothing has been confirmed.
[edit] CSN Northwest HD
Comcast SportsNet HD is a high definition simulcast of the best programs from Comcast SportsNet including live sports & series. CSN Northwest will broadcast 28 Portland Trail Blazers home games in HD[3].
