[edit] Plot summary
In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames investigate the murder of an esteemed ear surgeon found slain in his office.
During the investigation, Goren and Eames learn the victim had testified in a case involving a controversial cochlear implant and members of the radical deaf community. The detectives soon turn their attention to another doctor who had implanted this electronic device on a baby, who contracted an infection and died as a result of the surgery.
Though this doctor has not completely been eliminated as a suspect, he offered an alibi that prompted Goren and Eames team up with a detective who interprets for the hard of hearing, as they try to get to the bottom of a case in which no one seems willing to communicate with them.

[edit] Quote
Goren: Fat cats going deaf from too much oxycodone. (*)
* This could be a reference to the conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh, who was known for saying that drug addiction was not a disease and that the drug users should be jailed. Nevertheless, he later admitted to listeners on his radio show that he was addicted to prescription drugs (as oxycodine) resulted from several years of intense back pain.
