[edit] Photos I took
All of the photos below are ones I took myself and are in place in and around articles in Wikipedia. Contact me if you have any questions about them. More are on the way as well. I've also uploaded historical photos, some of which are below.
I also like to thank Piotrus and all the other who have taken pictures of Pitt/Pittsburgh. As you can tell, I'm very much an amateur with a simple low-end digital camera. I don't live in Pittsburgh, so my opportunities to grab shots is also very limited. Therefore, if you have better pictures than these, or the occasion to get better pictures of Pitt, please upload them!

These images I uploaded below are in the public domain in the United States because they were originally published prior to 1923 or 100 years after the author/artist has died. I have uploaded other historic "copyrighted" images under fair-use claims that are not displayed below.

[edit] Contributions and pages
As you can imagine by looking over my photos, I have a special interest in the University of Pittsburgh and especially its history. Have many major additions to the content of Pitt's main page, including most of the content in the history section (which now has its own page) and additions to rankings, international studies, scholars, community, student traditions, well, generally the whole page I've helped to expand and touch up. I've also contributed to the athletics pages, with particular attention to the earlier histories of football and men's and women's basketball, with a more thorough explanation of Pitt's national championships. (I'm particularly proud to have found an additional conference title in men's basketball that is not listed in Pitt's media guide, as well as early records for long forgotten early 20th century women's teams). I have also made major revisions to Pitt's template. I have to stress, that there are many others that have made hugely important contributions and it needs more contributions from the Pitt community to be the great wikipedia entry it should be.
I've had a special interest in researching the history of Pitt's campus and buildings. Unfortunately, I'm somewhat limited, being located outside the Pittsburgh area, to conducting research on the internet. However, I've think I've been able to compile some interesting information about Pitt's many historic buildings...info that I had never known prior to researching their origins, architecture, historic designations, etc. The sources for this information were scattered far and wide throughout the web, and as far as I know, the wikipedia entries relating to Pitt's historic and major buildings now provide the single best collection of information on them available in one place (at least for buildings not named "Cathedral of Learning" or "Heinz Chapel").
[edit] Created pages
Below are the pages I've started myself. In addition, except for Allegheny Observatory, the Cathedral of Learning, and Litchfield Towers that already had substantial entries, I've made major additions to several of the pages for the buildings that had previous existed (like the William Pitt Union).
Building pages I created:
Allen Hall • Alumni Hall • Barco Law Building • Bellefield Hall • Benedum Hall • Bouquet Gardens • Chevron Science Center • Clapp Hall and the CLC Complex • David Lawrence Hall • Eberly Hall • Falk School • Gardner Steel Conference Center • Learning Research and Development Center • Log Cabin • Mervis Hall • Music Building • Old Engineering Hall • Parren Hall • Ruskin Hall • Salk Hall • Schenley Quadrangle • Sennott Square • Thaw Hall • University Club • University Place Office Building and an entry for the upper campus dorms like Sutherland, Pennsylvania and Panther Halls.
I've also created these Pitt related pages:
Panther statues • Forbes Tower • University of Pittsburgh School of Education • Nationality Rooms • Hail to Pitt • Pitt Victory Song • Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse • William Pitt Debating Union • Schenley Farms Historic District • Chancellor Henry MacCracken • Chancellor George Woods • President John McLaren • President Heman Dyer • President Robert Bruce • President Gilbert Morgan • Col. Joe Thompson • East Atlantic Gymnastics League • 2003 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament • University of Pittsburgh Alma Mater • Pittsburgh Panthers wrestling
[edit] Thanks!
I have to vigorously thank everyone that has helped put together Pitt's entries so far, and has added valuable information and editing to both the entries I started and ones I contributed to. You'll notice, though, a lot of these entries have holes in their information, and we need help flushing out the details and making the pages better. It would be especially helpful for those in the Pittsburgh area with access to libraries to help, but if I may be so bold to take the liberty of thanking everyone who has contributed to Pitt related entries, I would like to do so here.
[edit] My thoughts on what is needed
Pages I think are in greatest need of additional material:
- Nationality Rooms (especially photos)
- Old Engineering Hall, architectural info on Ruskin Hall and the SIS building...as well as some of the other newer buildings.
- Forbes Hall
- Pittsburgh Panthers football this could be a lot more detailed both historically and season recaps. See other school's pages.
- University of Pittsburgh School of Arts and Sciences
- University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine
- University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration
- University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work
- University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy
- University of Pittsburgh College of General Studies
- University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and Victoria Hall
- University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and related pages
Pages I think are needed:
- Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology
- Trees Hall
- Cost Indoor Sports Center
- UPMC Sports Performance Complex
- Starzl reasearch tower and BST3
- Three Rivers Review • Collision • Redeye Theatre Project
- Pitt Alumni Association
- Pitt Program Council
- Early coaches and principals
