[edit] Largest town? Castlebar or Ballina?

According to the last census in 2002, Castlebar has the largest population. However, this is quite different from being the largest town, even more so when the two largest towns are so close in side.

In saying this, the area of the Castlebar Urban District Council could probably be larger then that of Ballina UDC – does any have this data?

The relevent figures are (i have ommitted some figures):
District Persons
(2002)
Area
(hectares)
Ballina Town 9,478 1,451
Castlebar Town 10,287 1,099
Source: Census 2002: Population Classified by Area - Table 6 Population and area of each Province, County, City, urban area, rural area and Electoral Division, 1996 and 2002.
Search www.cso.ie for the full report, encluding "environs". Djegan 22:53, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other sources

Okay, I acknowledge it doesn't really belong in the article, because it's a commercial site, but I think there's a great deal of accurate information there and the County Mayo talk page is a good enough place for this link:

[edit] Sport in Mayo

I don't think that "Mayo winning over Dublin in 2006 by one point" belongs on this article, really. -- Evertype· 09:23, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
