Davidson attended Baylor University, [1] [2] and was selected in the first round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. [1]
As well as playing quarterback, Davidson also played the position of placekicker and punter.[2] Davidson was the first starting quarterback of the Dallas Texans football franchise. Davidson was selected to the American Football League All-Star Game twice—in 1961 and in 1963.[1] He was awarded as the MVP of the 1961 AFL All-Star Game with the Texans.
In 1963, the Chiefs traded Davidson to the Oakland Raiders for the first overall selection in the 1963 American Football League Draft, which was used by the Chiefs to select future Hall of Famer Buck Buchanan.
