Cobaeaceae is a family of flowering plants native to sub-tropical and tropical parts of the Americas. Taxonomy. Subclass Dicotyledonae; Tenuinucelli. Dahlgren’s Superorder Solaniflorae; Solanales. Cronquist’s Subclass Asteridae; Solanales. APG (1998) Eudicot; core Eudicot; Asterid; unassigned to Euasterid I or Euasterid II; Ericales (as a synonym of Polemoniaceae). The family has about 18 species in 1 genus - Cobaea.
The plants in this family typically have winged seeds, compound leaves, flower pistils 3 celled and large showy flowers. Plant habit is lianas or vining.
