- Rayonné refers to the rays of the sunburst in the Jesuit badge. It can also be used generally to describe a "tounged" line which does not form an enclosed circle, as is the case in the Jesuit badge. See [1] for an illustration. Micasa 05:55, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Evolution
I have noted a bit about the coat of arms' evolution in the photo captions, but this could be elaborated in the text. For example the last line regarding the Fund. MDCCCLXIII is in fact a relatively recent addition (mid/late 1990s) by the then-Office of Publications and Print Marketing. I believe Fr. Donovan devoted one of his Occasional Papers on the History of Boston College to the evolution of BC's coat of arms, but it is not included in the O'Neill Library's eScholarship collection. Since the Jesuit badge is already included, I think the gallery would benefit from the two other primary sources of the BC coat of arms, namely the three crowns of Boston, Lincolnshire and the Boston "trimount." The first should be easy enough to find from a depicion of Boston, UK's shield. The original trimount might be harder to determine. I know it is included in both the shields of the Boston Archdiocese [2] and St John's Seminary [3], but neither is the original source of the "trimount" depiction, as the archdiocese's website itself indicates ...
