Clay Bertrand
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clay Bertrand is the name of the person that New Orleans attorney, Dean Andrews, claimed attempted to hire him to represent Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected assassin, after the John F. Kennedy assassination of 1963. Oswald was murdered November 24, 1963 in the basement of the Dallas police station by Jack Ruby before the trial took place.
The actual existence of a Clay Bertrand has been debated through the years, with Andrews claiming both that he made the name up and that the FBI intimidated him into claiming Clay Bertrand does not exist. As of today there is no proof of Andrews's allegations about the existence of a Bertrand or anyone by that name having a relationship with Oswald.
Jim Garrison, New Orleans district attorney, believed that Clay Shaw was the supposed Clay Bertrand during the trial of Clay Shaw. Shaw was later found not guilty.
