The station launched in 1977 at 94.5 FM, and moved to its current frequency in 1992 where it has been broadcasting from at least 6am until midnight ever since.
CKMS-FM plays a variety of genres from rap music to rock music to classical music and everything in between. This is something the station prides itself on. [edit] Future of CKMS-FM
As of March 2008, a student referendum was passed with Jeffery Aho on the 'Yes' Committee that would no longer place the $5 fee onto student's bill statement.
The Board of Directors and staff have been working on a means to maintain basic operating costs, but with funding ceasing on September 1st 2008, the future is unsure.
