Is anyone aware of a chart that would indicate the amount of Citric Acid found in common fruits and vegetables?

Does anyone else have severe asthma as a symptom after ingesting 330 or citric acid? (Gettingblonder 19:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC))

I have been unable to locate a list of foods. I found an joural article by William E. Walsh M.D, Atopic Dermatitis Associated with Citric and Malic Acid Intolerance, September 1979 that discusses the findings that an intolerance to these items exists. I do not have asthma, but do have the other symptoms listed. I also have gluten intolerance and do know if that could be part of the problem or not.

I get some different symptoms from citric acid, like swelling around my eyes, eye strain, headaches, stomach cramps and pain urinating. I randomly get asthma sometimes even though my peak flow is off the charts, so this could also be linked, but i haven't correlated it with citric acid yet. I can get away with some citric acid without any problems, so i assume it is a missing digestive enzyme. Does anyone know what this enzyme is?? It may be possible to supplement it as they do with zymil for lactose intolerance sufferers.

[edit] There is such a thing?????

How do these people generate citric acid through the Krebs Cycle without having a reaction?--66.146.147.147 (talk) 04:00, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citric Intolerance

I note that the items listed are all fruits. However, some vegetables have citric acid such as Tomatoes, cayenne peppers (not the same as sweet peppers), Jerusalem artichoke, lettuce. There is some good information on Vicky Clarke's website (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~vclarke/citric.html) as she discovered she has an intolerance.

So do I but mine seems to either react instantly - vomiting or slight swelling of my air passages - or sort of gathers in my lower digestive tract for some period of time before causing vomiting and diarrhea.

Is there any really definitive list of what those of us with such an intolerance must avoid? I keep finding only partials. Robbie92.4.35.111 (talk) 16:51, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
